This is a smaller community, so like many schools this school is under budget constraints, and therefore, does not have top of the line products/aides and is continually fighting cut backs. However, the teachers make up for this in their abilities and innovative teaching styles. Many of the teachers work in teams to share resources and ideas, and all of the teachers that I have dealt with have gone above and beyond what was expected of them to give the children a positive learning experience. I am very pleased with the education that my son has been receiving at George Long Elementary.
My son is in first grade now and he enjoys going. He has learned way more then I did in school and I am so glad for a school to be concern about education first.
Our child is in the 2nd year at the elementary school. We feel the school is wonderful with the staff, the teachers we've dealt with have been wonderful. The programs are great, our child is really happy at this school. However the parking lot is horrible. The drop off and pick up is a joke, the design of the new parking lot is the pits. There are not enough parking spaces and causes a lot of chaos. Who Designed this???? Its elementary and every inch of that lot needs to be used properly, there is a good 1/4 of the parking lot not used. What a waste of tax payers money.
I'm the parent of a fifth grader. I have two complaints. One, the lunch ladies take away my son's lunch before lunch is over, and two, gym is every other marking period! what's up with that?!? Kids need to exert energy! maybe if gym were once a day or even two to three times a week, the lunchlady problem wouldn't be a problem any more. ( I've heard that lunch time is very loud and the kids are exerting their energy in the cafeteria, because thats the only place they can vent their energy.)
Our child is starting her second year at GL this fall. We have been very happy with the quality of the teachers so far, and believe they are doing an excellent job. We have had some frustrations with bullying that we did not feel were handled as well as they could have been. The school is undergoing a significant expansion, and this might help increase the extracurricular activities that are offered.
