I am a dyslexic, creator/Principal of Pinecrest Virtual Academy and pursuing my PhD in Instructional Design for Online Learning. Pinecrest teaches time management, organizational skills, study skills, color coding and coping skills. We are converting Pinecrest School to an online virtual world classroom. Virtual worlds have a high social presence, interactive communication and interactive environment suited for creative minds and cooperative learning, AD/HD and Dyslexics need. However, the learning curve can be high, so I have developed pre-training module using the position, that AD/HD and Dyslexic learners will find virtual world communities an asset to their learning style once the barriers of learning to use them is overcome. In addition, it will offer a connection with other LD learners to form a community, which will build self-esteem and enhance their learning ability and productivity. This project will enable the learners to maneuver, explore, and become confident in the virtual environment, which means they are more likely to acquire the skills necessary to make their involvement in virtual world assignments more meaningful, hands-on and engaging.
