I am currently a student at haslett high school and there is very little racism, almost none. Just because our school is not that diverse does not mean that there is 'too much racism'

Our high school has a great emphasis on the arts (band, choirs, etc.), which as studies show, lead to even greater involvement and success by students in their overall studies. Athletics, while successful, are kept in balance with academics.

I am a teacher, as well as a parent for a school of choice student at HHS. Haslett is an incredible school district! The staff is exceptional! The time, dedication and committment that they put in is admirable. Having taught elsewhere prior to coming to Haslett, I remain impressed with the community, parent support and involvement, student motivation and achievement, and the districts concern for all learners. As my wife and I contemplated where to send our children as they complete 8th grade at a private school, there was no comparable choice - Haslett H.S. was the place. I remain particularly impressed with the social studies department, their infusion of technology into the courses, their cooperation in aligning the curricula, the connections they make with students and the community, and their efforts to teach all learners.

I am now currently going to Haslett high school. I transferred from Detroit to Lansing. To be honest Haslett seems like a nice school but it really does lack diversity BIG TIME and there are some racism problems in this school. And the means of wealth in this school....money is not everything..... this school has nice teachers but some lack orginization. To be honest between my old school and this school I would go back to my old school.

They have seemed to forgot that they are there to educate the young men and young women that walk through there doors. Not for personal wealth and status. Treat all the parents and students the same and dont look down on the less fortunate and cater to the wealthy. When this happens it will be an a+ plus school again.

My children currently attend Wilkshire and Murphy elementary and I couldn't be more pleased with the environment in which my children get to learn in and be a part of. The elementary buildings really look at how the environment in the school and classroom impact a child's learning (responsive classroom). I'm so impressed with the options available to my children as well. There is spanish class starting in 2nd grade and a writing club. My kindergartener is learning sign language and spanish from her teacher which she loves. I am learning that Haslett teachers are of high quality it doesn't matter who you have. Parent-teacher conferences involve the student and it is called a Goal Setting Conference in which the student actively participates in developing. I just can't say enough about the district. We are very pleased!

Haslett High School is an excellent school for academics teachers are tough but well worth it! I beleive your child will receive the up most in learning at this school. Athletics are really good to, the only problem I have seen in the sports here is the favoritism from coach to certain athletes, I beleive that all athletes should be treated equal, that is a big issue that alot of parents disscuss, but it seems not to get taken care of. All in All Haslett is an excellent school

I am a senior this year at haslett high school I have read some of the reviews of my school, and with all but two i agree, Haslett high school is a great place for a student to grow up and learn, i've been a student here all my life since kindergarden. And i have only encountered a few racism acts or situations in this time, and they were dealt with immediatly. It is true that a lack of diversity is found at haslett, but it is not true that this causes many racism acts and makes it a horrible learning enviornment. Now it is true that there is the occasional kid or two who are racist, but it's like that in everywhere. I just wanted to speak out and let you hear a current students opinion about what is acctually going on in this school.

I graduated from Haslett in 2001. I feel that Haslett is an exceptional school for college prep. I have talked to many different students who have come from a variety of backgrounds, from what I have heard Haslett spent much more time teaching students how to learn and reason rather then what to remember. As for diversity, if it is you main concern then YES it isn't a diverse school, but I never witnessed or heard of any incidents of racism. I am not trying to say that there wasn't one racist student who may have said something but there was never a large problem. Haslett is one of the only schools in the area where the students aren't elitists who feel that coming from a certain financial background makes them better.

Haslett has been a great community to raise our children. The schools are a great safe environment to allow the students to be able to learn. Teachers are always involved with the students and their activities. The participation in the areas of choir and band have always been a top priority, I can not remember the last choir concert that was not standing room only. Our channel 25 television program has been rank as one of the top in the State & Country for high schools. Athletics are open to all, and have also been in the tops of each sport with close rivalrys with Dewitt. All schools have either been renovated or in progress and brought technology up. We also are one of the few districts with alternative education high schools that continues to grow and help these students get ther diplomas.
