Posted October 21, 2011

ITS NOT THE SCHOOL, IF THERE IS A PROBLEM, ITS THE STUDENT AND THE UNINVOLVED PARENTING.... YOU ARE RESPONSIBLE FOR YOU OWN EDUCATION!!!

HPJH is an excellent school. Brand new, state of the art. My child had a hard time when he started there mid-year. All of his teachers sat down with him, layed out all expections, allowed him to as well, and made him feel so welcome. He has been excelling ever since. Good job. Thanks for taking the time!!

well, I think hazel park junior high is one of the best schools I've been to. yeah, there may be a couple of fights now and then but in all honesty, e school has fights in it. The teachers are so supportive here. When I am havingvery a bad day and feel like nothing, teachers are there to listen and tell you to not give up. That ' Your' worth living. They care and love us students more than anyhting in the world. When kids get in trouble they may not have the best disipline but most of the time it works. If I had to choose a teacher to give the Best teacher who is loving and caring award it would go to Mrs. Bentz!

Personally, I think it is pretty sad when the only thing parents like about this school is the band teacher. My son attends this school, and I could not be more disappointed. They don't teach well enough for the students to really understand. If I could, my children would not be going to Hazel Park schools. Period.

My son has been a part of this school going on two years. I want to say...They are doing everything right! he did the transition from elementary level great and the teachers are there because they want to be. Great experience!

I know the staff and adminastration work very hard. The extra curricular activities are second to none. They offer more sports then anyone else as well as band, choir, and talented gifted programs. The goals of the school is for all to achieve success. However, more parent involvement is needed for this to happen. Overall, this school works hard to put out a good product. As in all schools you get out what you put in. For those who feel cheated or let down I say, 'Look in the Mirror'.

I love this school im in 8th grade and it is the best! teachers are so nice and mr.fisk and mr.ross are the best out of them all. I think they could work on some things but if I was an parent I would send my kids here!

The only good thing about the school is Mr. Ross, the Band teacher. He is top notch. Otherwise I would suggest going to another school. The MEAP scores say it all. The school is failing the students and the parents.

I have to agree with many of the parents. The fights, the kids don't have homework except for a 2hr/wk reading log. Many of the teachers are great! the sports are great. We are moving and I'll be sure to let you know if the grass is greener on the other side but I have to believe yes! The biggest problem is the Admin and Principal and VP! The blue building needs a turn over!

I believe the academic programs offered are challenging and offer students the opportunity to grow and stay interested in education. The band program is stellar and the sports programs are top shelf, especially the coaching. Parents are encouraged to be involved in all aspects of their child's development.

What a beautiful brand new building, however, walking into the office I did not feel I was welcomed with a warm greeting. I was made to feel as if I was bothering the staff and I had a hard time meeting with an administrator. My child's math teacher was great and very dedicated, however, I did not feel this way about the quality of his other teachers.

The MEAP scores speak volumes. Many of these students are performing well below average. Something isn't working and the students are the ones who suffer.

The school is a good place to learn. Teachers are willing to do the extras for students in need. The administration keeps a good handle on behavior. The building is one of the finest in the area making the envirornment for learning good. When there are problems (and there are as in any middle school) they are delt with. As a note to one of the other feedbacks - the teachers and administration are most often in the halls except when teaching in their classrooms or dealing with business in the office. That parent's view sounds like someone with some of those problems need to be taken care of. Good school -- the bottom line.

Poor leadership. Not sure what the principal and assistant principal do all day except sit in their offices unitl 4pm. Many fights. Need to get a handle on behavior and improve MEAP scores.

About the tests

In 2012-2013 Michigan used the Michigan Educational Assessment Program (MEAP) to test students in grades 3 through 8 in math, reading and writing; in grades 5 and 8 in science; and in grades 6 and 9 in social studies. The MEAP is a standards-based test, which measures how well students are mastering specific skills defined for each grade by the state of Michigan. The goal is for all students to score at or above the proficient level.

Beginning in the 2011-2012 school year, the Michigan State Board of Education implemented new definitions of what it means to be proficient on the MEAP test. The new standards for proficiency are higher than in previous years and the percent of students earning a proficient score is expected to be lower as a result of this change.
