I have been incredibly pleased with Black River. My now 3rd grader has been at Black River since Kindergarten. There is so much communication between parents and teachers, and she is above grade level in every subject.

This school gives a wonderful learning environment for children. Black River is a college prep school that focuses on the arts. Children graduate ready for college.

Very above average school. Much better than any of Holland Public Schools in the district. The down side is the amount of homework each and every night including during breaks - Christmas, Spring and Summer Vacation. If you are looking for college prep this is the school you must choose!

This school fosters a love of learning in the kids and an openess to new ideas. The teachers know the kids and there is no chance for your child to get lost in the crowd. Because the kids are placed in classes according to their ability, there is interaction among kids at all different grade levels. This works amazingly well. That coupled with an open minded environment and small class size makes an environment where there are few if any cliques - most all the kids talk and interact with everyone else.

Black River is a non-traditional school which admits and supports a diverse student population. Imaginative and often unconventional children find they are accepted and validated as individuals within this peer group. The teaching staff is proactive in assessing and understanding the students and communicating with parents about observations and ideas. The curriculum and block scheduling allow for interesting work (including group efforts and projects) and often time to finish assignments in class.

This school is great. They treat students as individuals not students. Since we came to this school my children would like to go to school year round. They no longer hope for snow days in the winter.
