I didn't care for this school. Maybe it's because we're from Northern Michigan and this was a culture shock for us. My child was always miserable. When they would have an indoor recess the children were made to be quiet and sit in their seats. That is insane, these kids needs to burn energy. There were often police in the classrooms bullying the children about bullying. I did however like my child's teacher and felt that she was doing her best. Overall this was a horrible school.

I am impressed by the professionalism of the staff at Pine Creek. I've watched a dramatic change in the past few years and see quality education with direction and purpose.

I moved from Holland to the Pine Creek area so my kids could attend Pine Creek. I went to conferences and am glad I moved. The teachers at Pine Creek for my 1st grader and 4th grader are the best. My kids are doing homework and really like to go to school. That makes me happy. Thanks to a really good group of people at Pine Creek, my kids love school.

I have had the pleasure to be in Mrs. Diehart's PK classroom. She is an incredible teacher! She is very patient, understanding and does an excellent job teaching her students!

My boy 'graduated' from 5th grade today, and I was so pleased with the way these teachers treated him and his classmates. I'm especially impressed with all the Spanish he's been learning.

My children have been students at Pine Creek over the last 8 years. As with any elementary school and kids of that age, nothing is ever perfect. Kids tease, get into disagreements, etc - it's all a part of kids growing up and learning. It's not how they behave because you can't always control that, it is how the teachers and the staff handle things when they don't. This school does a wonderful job. The staff is wonderful and we have had some fantastic teachers. It amazes me to this day that they have assembled such a fantastic group of educators who care about the students and their families. It makes me a bit sad to know that at the end of this year, our experience with PC will be over. While it may be over, it will never be forgotten.

I love Pine Creek. Every time I walk into the building, I see smiling faces. The teachers are always working hard and I know my grandchild is learning to read. I'm happy to have such a great school right around the corner from me.

As a parent, you want the best for your child. Sending our child to Pine Creek Elementary has been the best choice we have made! The teacher connects with our child on not only academically, but emotionally and personally as well. We couldn't be happier with our child's teacher and the support and feedback we receive from her. Our child is happy, and that reflects the teacher and the atmosphere our child is surrounded by all day!

My daughter loves going to school here. Her teacher is patient, respectful and encourages her to learn in a way that suits her. My wife and I will be the first ones to admit that our daughter has a hard time concentrating, but her teacher has never made her feel flawed or labeled. If teachers had treated me with such care when I was a child, I might have had a very different school experience. I think education is evolving - as it should be - and I thank the people of West Ottawa.

when my son went to school there it seem tht things weren't right! i got the impression tht some of the teachers there were just there to do a job and get paid. there additude did't seem so postive as i expected as a parent of my kids, i wanted to feel welcome and cofedent that my kids would do well and be able to perform posative. see a change in there additude insted! my son was commin home with negative vibes and wasn't doing well, it was dissapointing to see my son struggle, emotanialy, mentaly.

About the tests

In 2013-2014 Michigan used the Michigan Educational Assessment Program (MEAP) to test students in grades 3 through 8 in math, reading and writing; in grades 5 and 8 in science; and in grades 6 and 9 in social studies. Currently, GreatSchools' ratings reflect 2013 MEAP results; ratings will be updated after 2014 Michigan Merit Examination (MME) results are released. The MEAP is a standards-based test, which measures how well students are mastering specific skills defined for each grade by the state of Michigan. The goal is for all students to score at or above the proficient level.

Beginning in the 2011-2012 school year, the Michigan State Board of Education implemented new definitions of what it means to be proficient on the MEAP test. In addition, they have recalculated past years' results using these new standards for proficiency, making the above year-over-year results comparable.

What is the GreatSchools Rating?

The GreatSchools rating is a simple tool for parents to compare schools based on test scores, student academic growth, and college readiness. It compares schools across the state, where the highest rated schools in the state are designated as “Above Average” and the lowest “Below Average.” It is designed to be a starting point to help parents make baseline comparisons. We always advise parents to visit the school and consider other information on school performance and programs, as well as consider their child's and family's needs as part of the school selection process.
