I had transferred my first grade son because he was struggling at another nearby elementary school. The teachers and principal are so friendly and listen to your concerns as a parent and actually work with you in addressing your concerns. He is now getting the education he deserves.

My 6th grade son transferred to Platte River from Lake Ann Elementary this year and has grown steadily under their instruction. They put a lot of emphasis on preparing students for Middle School, which can be a little too much pressure for some students. In those cases they are flexible in working with parents to accommodate unique needs. Teacher skills vary, but one of my son's teachers has really impressed us--she's exceptional at recognizing each students needs and relating to them on a personal level to motivate them. The band teacher is also exceptional.

My two children attend Platte River, just as I did. The school has really been through a lot of changes in recent years including becoming the central location for all Benzie Central 6th graders. As a parent, I am confident my kids are getting a decent education. Their test scores are above average and they enjoy school. As a member of a minority group, I feel that there needs to be more diversity and cultural understandng within the district. Some staff are in a rut; they have been teaching for many years to the same grade but their subject matter is outdated.
