This is our second year in the AB School District. We have 3 children in the H.S, and 1 in her last year of Middle School. My children love the school(s) compared to their old school(s), but it's still extremely difficult as a parent to connect with administration when needed. First impressions are EXTREMELY important, and I'm not impressed with some of the H.S. office staff...a little warmth & smiles go a long way! I've been to several Board of Education meetings and I think I've seen less than 1% of parents attending. Parents: SHOW-UP! It's vital for you to know what's going on in the schools...which effect our communities. The BOE seems to be a VERY transparent Board, and that's unacceptable! Some of the comments listed concern me deeply, the only thing I can say is GET INVOLVED...show up at Board meetings and voice your concerns! Remember, the Board of Ed works for the people. They are voted in...not appointed. I won't give up trying to make a difference. As far as the teachers go...when I have an issue, I email them. 95% of the time I get a resolution...and when I don't, I follow the chain of command. Bottom line: Parents, get involved in your child's education on all levels!

This school is great if you don't care about your child attending college. It's right on par with the rest of the Michigan economy, sinking ship. It's definitely not a bad school, but it's most definitely not good. I'd say most of the problems are with quality of education and not crime and trouble. The parents and guardians contribute to the literacy in the area more so than the teachers do. A majority of the parents are very young and do not have jobs. Most of the students have better grammar than the parents in the district. If you get lucky you will have a great teacher, out of an entire staff, if I had to bet, there are maybe 3 teachers that I'd rate as excellent teachers.

I attend Anchor Bay and I've noticed many fights, nasty rumors and gossip etc. Education is golden in life Anchor Bay strives to get students attention but they dont try hard enough. The school is so big to where its hard to get one on one with teachers. Teachers are nice and helpful though. Students can be nasty and mean to one another and their are many clicks and groups it seems like everyone is "labled" with "preppy","emo","jock" etc.

I'm a graduate of this school and feel that this school has great potential but lacks the ability to truly educate their students. Almost everyone of my math teachers where lazy and did not teach me one thing. I do feel that I received a good education in English and history. This school has a great band program and once had a thriving choral program that is sadly now a mere memory of what it was. In one year went from being one of the best to one of the worst. Overall I feel this school is not horrible but unless certain teachers are removed students will continue to have a lacking education

I have one child that has gone through this school, and one who is currently still there. We are very pleased with the level of education our kids have received. The opportunities for sports and music programs are outstanding and they have a great variety of vocational courses available. The NEW Principal and staff have made great positive changes, that have improved the school this year. It's a great place for your kids. Yes there are students that cause an atmosphere to decline. Those are probably the parents that have posted negative comments on this site. I feel the school has greatly improved this year, with my youngest currently being a senior. I look forward to seeing the positive changes that this school is implementing.

Well, having three children attend this High School, I can say how very disappointed I have been. The new principal this year is a huge bonus, as he was greatly needed. I am hopeful he will make the changes necessary, to make this the great school it has the potential to be. TOO MANY VIOLENT FIGHTS! Bitter, nasty staff and enough horrible teachers, that the good ones do not get the credit they deserve. An excellant band program. Used to have a great choir, now it stinks. I rated the Principal four stars, last year the Principal would have been rated -one star. (yes, it was taht bad)

Anchor Bay High School is a wonderful place. They do a fantastic job helping in-coming freshmen adapt. There is a wide array of choices for classes. The Honors and AP classes are a great challenge for college bound students. There is something for everyone here! As parents, we couldn't be happier. I believe that parents that are unhappy with the school should consider their child's friends, home life, and parenting instead of wnating to blame the school. There is a helpful staff and a geat education offered at Anchor Bay High School. Wanting to make the most of that education comes from home and upbringing. The band program at the school is phenomenal!

While the building is pleasant, the staff's overall attitude at work is horrible. Customer service does not exist in their offices, and they are very hard to work with, often ignoring you completely. While staff is deplorable, their are exceptions, a few teachers do care, and are there for the kids. Oh, if your child is sick, be prepared to meet the coldest people you'll ever meet. They require your son/daughter to call home, but don't give them the phone even when the child is visibly ill! Horrible school as far as atmosphere goes. If you want your child to enjoy the best years of their lives, look elsewhere.

This school is one of the best in the area. The staff and administrators are amazing and do whatever they can for the students and the community while being one of the lowest funded schools in Michigan! For all of the parents who have complained, maybe you need to see how much time and effort the staff puts into this school before making unkind and false statements. I do a lot of volunteer work and see just how good the staff really is on a daily basis.
