I left a negative review about some the struggles I've faced as a parent at Northeastern however, there are definately some positives. The teaches are overall a positive influence and seem invested in the children and the ideals are positive. It's just hard when it seems so much is working against this school including the area or funding.

Northeastern faces challenges - witness the fact that 81% of the students qualify for free lunch. Only four schools in the district have a higher percentage of kids in poverty. While the school underperforms academically, this is to be expected. Rating the school by it's MEAP score only tells part of the story. Nearly all of these kids will graduate, and with the Kalamazoo Promise they can get free college tuition. While the school does have an extremely high ratio of teachers to students, again the numbers do not tell the whole story. While many classrooms do have 2 teachers, the second teacher is usually a college student finishing their education. Ironically, when conflicts arise, both the perpetrator and the victim receive the same punishment. This school relies heavily on outcome based education. Students all receive positive feedback, even those who are underperforming academically. Their mission appears to be producing good citizens, rather than scholars.
