I am an alumni. I had some really great teachers as well as some very bad teachers here. I would expect this is fairly common in rural communities. However, what was very depressing was the lack of courses offered, the lack of commitment from the community and the poor decisions on financial investments. The community regularly voted down any votes to improve the school or build a new school to replace the almost literally crumbling HS/Elementary building. Yet somehow, new athletic structures were built and new football equipment bought (early 2000's). If you want to take a skill course or technical course you must enroll in the WMCTC and hope they have the class you are looking for. My course at the CTC was dropped half way through my 2 year program. I came out with a good education and earned a degree in engineering from a great University. I thank the teachers that helped me in this school system. But until the community gets behind them, and the board starts making better financial decisions, this school will continue to decline. Good luck Lake City. Education is more important than beating McBain...just remember that.
Zero tolerance rules are not enforced for EVERY student. Tech classes are far behind where they should be. The community aside from those directly involved do not support this school.
this school is a really good school and we all love it very much....it helps us become smart and successful!!! we love you lake city!!!
I believe that this school is a school that children can grow up in. The school itself needs a little work but what the school stands for does not. Lake City is a small area and when going to this school that is the feeling that you get. You can know everyones name in your graduating class and you know everyone of your teachers because the classes are smaller. You still gain all the knowledge of a large school but none of the dangers and neglect that a child could encounter when going to a large school.
I would only send my children here as a last resort! The ceilings have mold therefore the children are more vulnerable to the flu and other respiratory illnesses. Not to mention, the student body is double of the maximum capacity. Many teachers do not have their own classroom, thus they are reduced to holding their school supplies on a 'magnificent' mobile cart. The cirriculum is far too insufficient for all grade levels. I would never trust the future of a child to this school district.
I think parents should become much more involved with their students' academic and extra-curricular activities. I feel that at the sports and fine arts programs very few people from the community make it. It seems only family is there when the whole community should enjoy the shows that the high school gives.
