Pleasant View Magnet School

This school obviously has a great arts program. With the funding being cut this year from those types of programs I am happy I made the choice to send my daughter there for her first year of school. We absolutely love her teacher Lauren Gewirtz. She is great with the kids and I really appreciate her teaching style. We also love that she uses song and singing for her learning experience. There have been a few kids in the class that have made it a challenging experience for my daughter and others. I attribute this to more of their homelife and the parents style of parenting. She handles these situations the best that she can. The principal Mrs. Shanihan is great too. She actually remembers the parents and students. It is easy to tell that she is very involved with the school and the children that attend it. That kind of leadership and attention is much needed in our communities. We just really love and appreciate the principals and the teachers we have incountered. Now it is time for the parents to get on board too with compassion, patience, and active roles in the children's behavior and learning. I really love this school and so does my daughter!

This school is incredible. I moved 1 1/2 hrs to be close for my child to attend on a daily basis. The school is very rare, due to the fact that it has a performing arts focus and starts in Kindergarten - my child can go to Theatre, Art, MUsic (instrumental, vocal), and dance. School districts are talking about cutting back with art education and or doing away with it all together. While this school has an art focus. This school is not an elitest place that caters only to those that take test well, those that some call "gifted" all our welcome at this school. IT is simply an art focused education that is free and open to all. It however is first come first serve and even if you live in the neighborhood you have to register - it is a first come first serve basis.. the sooner you register for the school year the better, as I hear they are wait lists. This school while amazing has suffered from budget cut backs... But I love the teachers as they are amazing, I love taking my child to school and I love picking my child up. The school has a very very positive feeling and there needs to be more schools like this school. More kids need this focus.

Awesome learning environment! Our daughter excelled at Pleasant View. Ms. Shanahan knows all of her students by name and has truly made the school a family. The dedication of the staff is phenomenal. The emphasis on arts affords the children many more opportunities than other area schools. The gifted and talented program kept our daughter engaged and excited. The level of parental involvement is also very impressive. We couldn't have made a better choice!

I remove my child from this school because she was being physically assualted. My child was behind in reading. I volunteered at the school on a daily basis and no one bothered to tell me she was behind in reading.

Pleasant View is a magnet school that focuses on the performing and visual arts and integrates the arts into the academic curriculum. It is a school of almost 600 talented children that are enthusiastic about learning! What could be better?

It is a great school with fantastic teachers and principals!!! And it feels like family when you walk through the doors. Students and families are the priority here and you know it the minute you meet the principal.

The principal is really involved with the school and it's a safe and warming environment. The arts program is wonderful and it is a well put together program. Any extra funds would help especially with cuts to the school funding.

I love Pleasant View School because of all the arts programs that they offer. This school was designed for a child like mine. She enjoys singing, dancing, drawing and performing. The principal and assistant principal are the best in the area and have a true love for the children. Pleasant View is one of the top magnet programs in the area.

Their performing arts programs are extraordinary. Children learn in many ways and are extrememly engaged.

This is a visual and performing arts school which incorporates arts into their everyday learning, It has been proven highly successful and due to overwhelming popularity, the school has a waiting list and their funding is gone!

PLeasant View is fantastic. The teachers are smart and caring, the principals are amazing leaders and interacting with the kids all the time and the art staff is amazing. I love the twice a year big performances at Hill Center and seeing my children on stage. It is a chance of a lifetime for them and their talent and confidence grows every year. Both of my boys are in after school dance classes, tap for one and hip hop for another. The drama department puts on a great play every year and my kids bring home amazing art work on a regular basis. With the lack of art education in so many other districts who wouldn't send their children to Pleasant View? The classroom teachers us art creatively to teach curriculum and this help all kids learn the subject material. Great job Pleasant View... keep up the good work!

Pleasant View is an excellent school. I would not choose any other school in Lansing for my children. Love the principle, love the staff. PV parents are the best. It is ethnically diverse which is awesome. The staff truly cares about the children and they are on their job. PV has close to 200 people on the waiting list. I have 3 children from 1st thru 5th grade and they all have been there since Kindergarten. I will not take my kids to any other school. The curriculum is great. Their standards are high. The parents are very involved and supportive of all of the programs. The performances draw droves of people and fill the large Hill auditorium. I love this school.

Pleasant View is a great school. I am so proud to have all my kids enrolled their. The staff is awesome with the kids and the Principal Rocks. I would never change this school for the world. As a parent you are constantly making choices for your kids. And you sometimes wonder if those choice are the right choices. Picking Pleasant View is one choice you will not ever wonder about. You will always know that it is right. I have no concerns about Pleasant View. It was the best choice I could ever make for kids. I am proud everyday to say that Pleasant View is our choice. So proud that I make it my job to tell other parents to bring their kids as well. Way to go Pleasant View!!!!!

My eldest daughter has been attending this school since kindergarten and my second daughter is set to begin this fall. I find that the magnet focus really enriches the learning experience and allows for creative expression. The staff is friendly and knowledgable. My daughter is doing a great job in her academics thanks to the dedicated teachers at this school and she loves going to school everyday! Thank-you, Pleasant View!
