In response to "excellent school," the child now has 13 absences. The school still has done NOTHING to address the issues I have contacted the board in Grand Rapids, and other people above the school level. This school does NOT like single father's either. Secretary was VERY rude when trying to access the attendance record, or even talk about it. With all of these absences, his teacher, or front office staff have no concerns.

I definitely disagree with the previous comment, this is in no way the worst school you could send your child to. And they are very strict about their tardy policy, in my opinion. I have even heard of students being suspended for excessive tardies. However, this is not the most important aspect of this school. I believe LCA provides an excellent curriculum for students of all learning levels. The gifted program provides an extra challenge for kids who are ahead, while the intervention services are determined to meet the needs of children who are struggling. This school also has a decent discipline policy which most students seem to respect. My child has had a wonderful experience here and enjoys school each day. I have volunteered several times and was welcomed to do so. I feel that this is a fantastic school with a positive learning environment that emphasizes and encourages strong moral character.

LCA is in an urban area striving to bring up the achievment of underserved. If you are gifted, bright or talented this school may not be for you. My student stay was 'bored' Few field trips and limited use of classroom technology. Sports program is run through YMCA. New school with many bugs that still need working out. Nice blend of male and female teachers, but their diversity does not match that of the students. The Parents in Partnership ran long meetings that were inefficient and often negative. Their bylaws require parents pay $1 membership which we found ridiculous. The school has a lot of activities, but there seems to be a lot of stuff rather than substance. The different groups aren't aware of what each other are doing and scheduling conflicts have occurred. The school maintains a generic website through National Heritage Academies and encourages parents to post on a facebook page (which we find very alarming and unprofessional). The moral focus and uniforms are a good idea, but my child hears swearing in the lunchroom on a daily basis. This school may be for you if your child needs disciplined focus, not for you if your student is a bright self starter.

As a parent of a child in upper Elementary, I filled out a form to volunteer in the classroom. The only time I have been formally asked to help out was to chaperone on a field trip. The Parent in Partnership Program is run like a clique. I was not able to attend the parent sharing meetings with the principal. When I did try to contact him with questions, concerns or suggestions as a new parent to this school, most times my communications were not addressed. The school has a great talk, but we have not experienced the 5 star rating of some of the earlier reviews.

The teachers are top-rate and dedicated, as are the rest of the staff. Having previously homeschooled our kids out of a desire to spare them from exposure to the public school system, I feel 100% confident in sending my kids here

I am very happy with the choice we made to send our child to Lansing Charter Academy. The staff at this school is truly amazing and there is great communication. I love the extent that parents are encouraged to be part of the school. I am looking forward to many more years as an LCA parent. This is truly a great school!

We made the choice to enroll both of our daughters in Lansing Charter Academy after a negative experience with another school. We all hit snags in our children's development and the faculty and staff at Lansing Charter Academy have been responsive and express a genuine interest in helping my children on their path to success. I know what my children are learning and I feel connected with the school. There were many reasons we chose this school over others in the area- the art department in particular is well rounded compared to others in the area, there is an understanding that while academics are important there are other very crucial things that children need to be successful adults. Community outreach is still developing at this new school, but looks very promising. I am quite satisfied that we have made a good choice for our children's future.

I LOVE LCA ALLSTARS!! My son and I are new to the city and I feel so blessed to have gotten my son enrolled in such an awesome school. Not only does almost everyone know my son but they know me also. They all may not know my name but they know my face and they definitely know my son by name. The staff are extrememly friendly and engaging. I have never seen a more nuturing staff. My son feels like his school is his home away from home. He loves school and he loves learning and is always so eager to learn. I love morning assembly. I was even asked to read to the school for March reading month. It was an honor for me. I love being able to drop by my son's school and volunteer in his class or just sit in his class and observe a day's lesson. I am a very involved parent and I am thrilled that LCA always has some way for me to stay involved! From the principal, to the deans, to the teachers, office staff, parents and students, Lansing Charter Academy is an excellent school and a wonderful, diverse environment for my son to learn. I would't have him in any other school! GO ALLSTARS!!
