My kids have been to three schools in four years. This is the most structure and discipline school by far. I love the staff, Principal, and the teachers. By far the best school my kids have been to.

As a parent that have observed the school within the entire 2006-2007 school year I would not recommend this school to anyone. This is an awful school for any child to attend. Academics is not the first priority there!

I don't have any negative feelings about this school. My child came from the DPS, where there was no PE, No Art, etc. and although many parents may not think this important, children need an outlet. My child is performing well academically because the teachers do care. When he was with DPS, he was constantly picked on, etc. and the reason was because of the student/teacher ratio. I try to teach my child not to be violent, when he wanted to tell that someone had harmed him there was no to tell. Because I cannot afford private school, I chose this Charter school and I am very happy with my decision. Don't believe me? Enroll your child in a DPS!

My child has been with Academy of lathrup since 5th grade. I DO NOT recommend this school to anyone! They do not give a darn about academics, all they care about is if your child has the right color socks on each day. My child has had exceptional grades for all of the years they have been with 'AOL' AND quite frankly, it makes you wonder what are they teaching the students because if it is that easy to earn an 'A' then WE should all be worried! I'm very nervous for my child when they go off to high school this year because I'm not really sure if my child will be prepared enough! Also, there are some teachers there that cannot control their class so that hurts the students that WANT to learn. Please, please don't send your child to this school!

I do not reccomend this school to any parent. This school got my child no where. He finished the whole year with a 4.0 The teachers are horrobile and they give no care to what the kids are doing. If your child has a year to waste send them here, and if you actually want them to learn something during the school year don't send them here.

About the tests

In 2012-2013 Michigan used the Michigan Educational Assessment Program (MEAP) to test students in grades 3 through 8 in math, reading and writing; in grades 5 and 8 in science; and in grades 6 and 9 in social studies. The MEAP is a standards-based test, which measures how well students are mastering specific skills defined for each grade by the state of Michigan. The goal is for all students to score at or above the proficient level.

Beginning in the 2011-2012 school year, the Michigan State Board of Education implemented new definitions of what it means to be proficient on the MEAP test. The new standards for proficiency are higher than in previous years and the percent of students earning a proficient score is expected to be lower as a result of this change.
