I think that Manistee High School is a great school, the teachers are fair enough, and there is an excellent band program directed by a wonderful teacher. I am in her band class and I think she is one of the nicest, funniest, yet still tough teachers that you will have. She is not a pushover, has a wonderfully strong attitude, and when I moved to this town, my old band director told me that I was lucky to be in her band class. There is a decent drama program, we recently played Little Shop of Horrors with a director who left soon after the show was finished for an opportunity in Grand Rapids. The extra-curricular classes and sports are extensive, ranging from volleyball to anime club. I highly recommend this school for anyone wishing to learn and still have a good time. Plus, the hot lunch isn't bad.
Manistee High School is a great school. I'd recommend it to anyone. With their laptop "PowerLearning" program in full effect, information is much more available to the students. Using Moodle (for homework, tests, quizzes, ect.) and PowerSchool (Grades and Attendance) makes more information available to students. Teachers are great. Many CP classes as well as AP classes. Dual Enrollment through West Shore Community College and online classes through the "Yes Academy". Challenging curriculum. Top notch facilities for athletics, one of the best band programs as well. Great administrators, too. Can't find a better place in Manistee County for acedemics, MHS is the best.
Manistee High School has a great modern facility that provides outstanding resources for the dedicated and capable teaching staff . Class sizes are small which allows teachers to take time to really educate the students and not just prep them for standarized testing. High School admin staff does a good job maintaining order and discipline among the students, but needs to improve in leadership and guidance for their teaching staff. Both our children are recent graduates of MHS and have proven to have been well prepared for college academics.
I have 2 children. One graduated 2 years ago with high honors. She was involved in outstanding (award winning) band program, National Honor Society, a very successful sports program and countless other activities. My other child is a senior this year. This child is very different from the first, and is very interested in the 'trades' courses offered such as Automotive, Wood Shop, Construction Trades. These classes have kept him interested in school, and he has done extremely well. While he may not be 'college material' as we know it, he has acquired many skills (which he excels in), and is considering trade school. Manistee High School is an excellent choice for all types of students. I highly recommend the high school as well as any other school in the Manistee Area Public School system.
My two children went to MHS; one was an honor student and the other needed a lot of help just to pass his classes. Both of my kids had teachers they loved, classes they enjoyed, and accomplishments that made them proud. Now both are in college and doing great! As a parent, I expect a school to provide a good education. MHS went way beyond my expectations. My kids each were treated respectfully (even when they were in trouble!)and encouraged to grow (even when they were making mistakes.) I can't say enough about the teachers at MHS except 'Thanks.'
My two children loved MHS. Both were challenged to the highest degree and always treated with kindness and respect. It is an excellent school.
Being a small school, academic programs are good, but faculity is very selective of which students they will allow into the programs.Music and Art programs are good. Parent involvement good. Children are not given a fair opportunity, and are picked only by prestious/political reasons only. Many children are left out, and picked on for that reason. Where councilors could interviene, they allow students to be pushed aside, only to see student fail. Then, it's blamed on the student. Much improvement is needed in this school. Each and every child should be treated special. And this don't happen at Manistee High School. How could a student look forward to going to school each day under these circumstances? Bewarned!
