Central is real. The students are hard working. The staff is genuine. This is the kind of school where a child is cared for beyond their academic skill set. The teachers know their clientel and VALUE the students as people and as learners.

My daughter attended Central during the 6th grade and part of 7th. We moved mid-year and the other school that she attended was the worst experience ever. Central is full of caring people, from the staff to the students themselves. We have recently moved back and she is now attending the 8th grade at Central, and will finish there. My oldest son also attended Central from 6th through 8th. Central is the best intermediate school in Midland as far as our family is concerned.

My son is a student at Central and I wouldn't have it any other way. He is receiving a quality education from caring teachers. They provide all the resources he needs(was in gifted-talented) and he is very happy here. I am proud to be a Central Middle School parent. Keep up the good work! Parents: don't let stories you hear keep your child away from Central. It is a 1st class school. I ignored everything I heard and sent my older child and am very glad I did. There wasn't any other choice for my son.

About the tests

In 2012-2013 Michigan used the Michigan Educational Assessment Program (MEAP) to test students in grades 3 through 8 in math, reading and writing; in grades 5 and 8 in science; and in grades 6 and 9 in social studies. The MEAP is a standards-based test, which measures how well students are mastering specific skills defined for each grade by the state of Michigan. The goal is for all students to score at or above the proficient level.

Beginning in the 2011-2012 school year, the Michigan State Board of Education implemented new definitions of what it means to be proficient on the MEAP test. The new standards for proficiency are higher than in previous years and the percent of students earning a proficient score is expected to be lower as a result of this change.
