This school has plummeted in terms of environment and professionalism. After redistricting, this school is no longer a "nice" school. All of the 'rough kids' have been sent here, and the halls are filled with rough parents. Behavior problems abound. The teacher that I experienced for two years doesn't embrace technology, and emailing is sketchy. No communication unless you beg, and beg, and beg for it. Flaccid leadership by Mr. Starr and Mrs. Everly. Every event is mass confusion with no sense of organization. Two years was more than enough for us! We got out of there!!
We have really great teachers and some innovative programs in the works. Really working hard to develop a great community of learners.
my children have gone to this school for three years now, it used to be a place to nurture and promote learning now it is just another public school trying to keep from going under. The teachers are overwhelmed and the aides are frustrated to say the least. Kindergarten aides have no business shouting at children through bullhorns,It is sad to say learning is secondary to control. It is obvious that more children are struggling, this is the first year I know of so many young students being recommended for summer school, and no, none of my kids were. So this is not sour grapes. My children will not be attending next year. I also urge anyone with small children attending to "show your face" around campus. This once happy little school now resembles more of a police state or re-education camp.
My kids have been on the Hollywood/Cantrick campus now for the last 8 months , were as previously we were in Custer Elem. schools (before the redistricting). As a very harsh critic of public schools I will tell you that I am really impressed with this new school setting. The start of the year was very bumpy because the board of Ed in monroe did not prepare the staff or parents for the first day of school (transportation was horrific the first week to put it mildly) but as the year has gone on I am very impressed with the co-principals Mr Starr and Mrs. Everly, they are both very genuine and hard working principals. The teachers have been very good too. One exception no special needs help but that's a state wide issue. Good schools!! :)
My daughter is in Kindergarten. I feel compared to other schools they need improvement in their reading/ literacy programs
