Schools are a reflection of the community, this is a good community with a good school. The only reason I would not give this school 5 stars is because the are to small to offer a wider selection of course work. It would be nice to see the school focus completely on academic achievment and forget about NCLB or AYP. But, that is the nature of schools they are being choked by state and federal policy. Teachers have always been wonderul and helpful, but that is what you get with most small commuity schools. As far as the absence policy if a studnet is 'really' sick or ill the district will bend over backwards for them. Just look at all the fundraising they have done recently for two students who were badly hurt in auto accidents. The absence policy also has an exemption clause for student who are sick.

Due to job losses and multiple moves, my son completed his senior year at Montague High School. This was the third high school he attended. Of course, I was concerned about this, how he would cope, adapt, etc. I worried for nothing. The staff and students welcomed my son and made him feel right at home. He enjoyed his teachers and classes. He was able to participate in soccer and track which helped him acclimate and make friends. As a parent, I found the students to be polite and friendly. On one visit, a young man held the door for me, looked me right in the eye, and said hello. My husband asked if I knew him. I had never laid eyes on him. I found most of the students to be this polite. We were very happy with the education my son received at MHS.

I've read all the input. All are correct from my point of view. Football is number one, no matter what, the principal acts like one of the kids, absences are a problem if you are ill, and the school is a good place to have your children attend. 85% of the teachers are competent in the high school. Office staff is usually too busy doing nothing to help you and are very quick to let you know you are bothering them, even on the phone. The friendliest employees are the janitors, no matter where or when you are in the school. THis is my school. It is like every other business, some good and some not so good. Deal with it!

In spite of all the budget cutbacks the state has done, this school has done its best to stay a leader in the area. As a parent who has been at two other schools/districts there still is a wide variety of options available for our children to choose from academically and athletically. The principals have done what they can to keep programs intact and the teachers have done a great job teaching even as class sizes have increased due to the budget cutbacks. We don't have a problem with the way discipline is done in fact we would wish more schools would take a stand as MHS has done. I would recommend to any parent to send your children to this school.

why would you want any teacher or administrator to 'joke around'. I want my kids to receive quality education. I do not feel they receive that at MHS. Many poor quality teachers. I had the counselor tell me that the reason more college prep classes are not taught is that 'this is a farming community' Another told me in home room she was only a baby sitter. Great role models huh. Football is the only thing the administration cares for in this district. If you are good at it they will find ways to keep you in the school.

Montague High School has some good issues and some bad ones! Cameras, drug dogs, and an unreasonable dress code don't make the school any safer. They make adults feel good, people still do things even though there are cameras and rug dogs. The school attendance is unfair, Some people don t get sick very often and when they do they are sick for a week or more. It treats students with serious illnesses or medical conditions in a way that is inexcusable! Then there is Mr. Kruger, he is the best principal you could ever have he likes to joke around with kids and he is always trying to be one of us He is a great guy!

MHS is a school full of civil students and mostly excellent teachers. The teachers who I have heard the worst reports of happen to be very comptent and likable. The problem is the administration responsible for the budget. They saw fit to spend over $1,000,000 on a state-of-the-art auditorium ceiling consisting of a wavy black drop-ceiling studded with teal christmas lights. They then attempt to recoup these squandered taxpayers' dollars by charging through the nose for unimportant things like food and driver's education. All of the heightened security and disciplinary measures are a facade. Cameras, drug dogs, and an unreasonable dress code don't make the school any safer. They make adults feel good. Meanwhile the students find better ways to bring drugs to school and avoid being monitored.

At the high school kids have say in nothing. The office staff treats the kids with rudeness, as does one of the library ladies. With the new involvement of drug dogs, the cameras in the halls, and the talk of metal detectors, they treat the kids like criminals. The school also takes prefrence over certain kids because of their backgrounds or if that kids family knows any of the staff. Instead of buying a plasma tv so other schools think this school is fancy and cool, they should spend the money on the kids with new books or paying off the debt for the addition to the school.- from a student at MHS
