I am a Mt. Clemens Alum and a current Substitute teacher. I graduated from MCHS fairly recently (2006 to be exact) and I can say with certainty this school has a far worse reputation than it deserves. I sub at various high schools in Macomb County (Chippewa, Lance Cruse, Warren-Con., E. Detroit, and Lakeview, just to name a few) and it is in my opinion on par with, or better than, these schools in terms of education quality teachers caring, safety/truency, ect (meaning I'd give the staff and curriculum at all these schools an equally average score). There exist students in other districts who are rude, listless, and uncooperative as well - maybe even more so - but when anything occurs at MCHS, it's in the front page of the Macomb Daily! As a general rule of thumb to all you naysayers, discipline and reassurance students are studying are primarily the PARENT'S responsibility, not educators! Apparently MCHS is the only school who mentions that to parents, who apparently do not want to hear it.

I am not satisfied with the teacher quality of this school. So many parents have taken their kids out of this school because the majority of kids are not getting a good education. They have very bad test scores. Scholarships are minimal. I believe the principal needs to be a bit tougher on teachers so that they put forth a better effort to reach at least the majority of the kids.

Mount Clemens High school is a great school. the only thing wrong with it is its reputation. If something happens with this school, it is in the headlines of the paper or the news. every school has its flaws, Mount clemens is truley a great school

Mount Clemens schools may not be top of the line, but if your children attend the high school, they/we are learning something. It's not all the teachers fault, it's what effort you child is putting forth. (GREAT teachers!)The way Mount Clemens is conveyed has never really been the best but don't knock it until you try it. Mount Clemens truly is a great district! Maybe if we could get some support from the community and parents, (their input) things could change.

the principle is awesome. he barely yells and students love him. it's true there are not enough teachers that care but if u wanna learn u will. the school is ver safe and there are hardly any fights but students gossip alot and ur student may feel the need 2 leave after a while.

If you want to learn, you can do it here, at Mt. Clemens. Honestly, it's a better school than the reputation that precedes it. You make it what it is, don't judge it until you try it applying

I'm not sure how the school is now, but when I graduated in 2002, it wasn't nearly as bad as it may sound out to be. The books are old, yes. Some teachers are indifferent, yes. You'll have that anywhere you go; but if you want to learn there, you will. Also, I found it to be a good place to learn life lessons, because the school is as diverse as the city itself. There are wealthy people, there are poor people. There are black people, there are white people. You encounter a little bit of everything that the world has to offer and if you can keep your head on straight, it can really build character and social skills.

From my experience, I can understand why parents pull there children out of M.C.H.S., the important issue as offering students additional help that's needed. No formal tutoring programs are set in place, teachers now days seem to be unconcerned with students. The school needs to evaluate teachers and their teaching methods and not quick to assume the student does not want to learn. Never assume, both areas needs evaluated more frequency and try to focus on how the student can feel comfortable with the M.C.H.S. The sports department is an activity majority of students can look forward to. The way it's conducted can use some work, as in boys basketball, the fund raising last year was the worst I have ever experienced. Parents involvement are not formal announced nor do not get any contacted or notified. Could really use lots of work.

Teachers cant teach because of distruptive students. Seniors graduating without enough credits. My children are NOT learning anything in the High School! Many students are leaving the district!

I think that this school is horrible. The principle is not doing a good job. Their is only a select few of teachers that teach right. I would never recommend this school.

About the tests

In 2012-2013 Michigan used the Michigan Educational Assessment Program (MEAP) to test students in grades 3 through 8 in math, reading and writing; in grades 5 and 8 in science; and in grades 6 and 9 in social studies. The MEAP is a standards-based test, which measures how well students are mastering specific skills defined for each grade by the state of Michigan. The goal is for all students to score at or above the proficient level.

Beginning in the 2011-2012 school year, the Michigan State Board of Education implemented new definitions of what it means to be proficient on the MEAP test. The new standards for proficiency are higher than in previous years and the percent of students earning a proficient score is expected to be lower as a result of this change.

About the tests

In 2011-2012 Michigan used the Michigan Merit Examination (MME) to assess students in grade 11 in reading, writing, math, science and social studies. The MME is a standards-based test, which measures how well students are mastering specific skills defined for each grade by the state of Michigan. The goal is for all students to score at or above the state standard.

Beginning in the 2011-2012 school year, the Michigan State Board of Education implemented new definitions of what it means to be proficient on the MME test. The new standards for proficiency are higher than in previous years and the percent of students earning a proficient score is expected to be lower as a result of this change.
