This school is a great school. My child went there from the second grade through the fifth grade and I plan to send my kindergarten there. The teachers are hard working and dedicated. The principal is very supportive of teachers! Submitted by a parent

I can't say enough about how awful this school is. There are a handful of really great teachers here, but most have forgotten why they became teachers in the first place. The principal is no better. Everything there is so disorganized. They don't like parents that ask questions; they'll tell you what you want to hear. If you can help it, keep your child away from this school.

I must say hats off to Ms. Knight and Mrs. Dickinson who I can surely say are wonderful people and teaching just happens to add to who they are. This school has been a struggle for my son who received tutoring before school and during school ( Washington continue the good work) As for my daughter's education at Washington happened to be not as challengin as I had wanted it to be for her, but I am and always will be a parent who is certainly involved, because it definitely takes more than the principal, teachers, and staff at school; it takes the parents, family and the whole village. And Mr. Loder(principal) we've had our moments, but at the end of the day it's succes for our children! Mrs. Drewery

The teachers at Washington Elementary are incredible; going an extra step to ensure that each student learns to the best of his or her ability. Not a very wealthy school district, but you can't tell based on the performance and quality of this school. The office staff is also very friendly, and the principal is a very good leader. Free tutoring was given to my son when he was struggling, and he improved greatly. Very good school.

About the tests

In 2012-2013 Michigan used the Michigan Educational Assessment Program (MEAP) to test students in grades 3 through 8 in math, reading and writing; in grades 5 and 8 in science; and in grades 6 and 9 in social studies. The MEAP is a standards-based test, which measures how well students are mastering specific skills defined for each grade by the state of Michigan. The goal is for all students to score at or above the proficient level.

Beginning in the 2011-2012 school year, the Michigan State Board of Education implemented new definitions of what it means to be proficient on the MEAP test. The new standards for proficiency are higher than in previous years and the percent of students earning a proficient score is expected to be lower as a result of this change.
