Most parent involvement in the entire area. Awesome teachers and, of course, great kids.

My roots are here. My father graduated from North Muskegon in 1938. My sister, my five brothers and I graduated from North Muskegon. My two sons have graduated from this school and I have been teaching here since 1986! It's a great place to work and raise kids. We at North Muskegon Schools care deeply about our students, families, and community. It's a great heritage to pass on!!!!

I am a junior at NMHS and have attended NMPS my whole life and can honestly say there is not a school or community I would rather have grown up in. The staff is excellent; they are both friendly and firm, interesting and profoundly adequate at portraying the true knowledge we are learning while still having fun. The Administrators are also exceptional. They understand the financial needs of the school as well as the need for a solid educational environment that is healthy for both students and faculty. As far as the students are concerned we have always welcomed new students...

I have a daughter in 2nd grade for the 2004/05 school year and I've found that the teaching staff is exceptional! They are very involved in each student's education. Teachers are willing to help before and after school if needed. I've noticed that parental involvement is very strong here as well. So far, my dauther's experience at the school has been truly wonderful. Very high emphasis put on education! We are also schools of choice, meaning we aren't from the district but are very well recieved!

I am very impressed with the staff at North Muskegon. They truly care about the children and their futures. I have never been in a school where the children have such a sense of security and well-being. The amount of graduates that are college-bound is phenomenal. I know of a lot of people who have moved away from the district to go to college and start their careers then return to North Muskegon to raise their children and have them attend North Muskegon Public Schools. Most of the students have such school pride that they 'bleed blue and gold'! We love North Muskegon Schools!

I think this is a school made up of people who think they are better than everyone else. I have had 3 kids go to this school & after 2 yrs I pulled them out. I know most would thing & do think North Muskegon yep thats the place I want to send my kids but from my experience let me tell you it could be very hard on your child or children being surrounded by all of that. Its sad!

About the tests

In 2013-2014 Michigan used the Michigan Educational Assessment Program (MEAP) to test students in grades 3 through 8 in math, reading and writing; in grades 5 and 8 in science; and in grades 6 and 9 in social studies. Currently, GreatSchools' ratings reflect 2013 MEAP results; ratings will be updated after 2014 Michigan Merit Examination (MME) results are released. The MEAP is a standards-based test, which measures how well students are mastering specific skills defined for each grade by the state of Michigan. The goal is for all students to score at or above the proficient level.

Beginning in the 2011-2012 school year, the Michigan State Board of Education implemented new definitions of what it means to be proficient on the MEAP test. In addition, they have recalculated past years' results using these new standards for proficiency, making the above year-over-year results comparable.

What is the GreatSchools Rating?

The GreatSchools rating is a simple tool for parents to compare schools based on test scores, student academic growth, and college readiness. It compares schools across the state, where the highest rated schools in the state are designated as “Above Average” and the lowest “Below Average.” It is designed to be a starting point to help parents make baseline comparisons. We always advise parents to visit the school and consider other information on school performance and programs, as well as consider their child's and family's needs as part of the school selection process.
