I give Orchard View 4 stars because I will be going back there this fall as a Junior and I have liked my time there. Most of the teachers are great and the environment is great too. I think the only reason other students say they're having problems or that teachers judge them is because they don't care about learning. Teachers can't hold your hand through things. I think they do that a lot anyway. My brother doesn't do well in school but the teachers help him as much as they can. He has to work at it too which I think many students don't do. Teachers aren't there to 'judge' you and they don't care about popularity. They are there to teach, hence their name. I think if students don't take advantage of that then they are going to have a hard time. But overall Orchard View is nice place.
I think people underestimate Orchard View. We have the abilities to be great. People have to understand that it's not only the teachers and rest of the faculty that should push students, it should be home environment as well, which a lot of the Muskegon area lacks because of disfunctional families. I'm not making excuses, but a member of the 2008 graduating class got accepted to Harvard, and you still think Orchard View's not doing it's job? I do feel that the counselors could improve on their job, but I believe the principals, as well as the teachers are doing their parts.
I attend Orchard View high school for my freshman and sophomore year. I had alot of bad experince at this school. I think that teachers only care about helping you if you were popular. I think this school cares to much about sports and not enough about there school work. I also believe that the teaches judge you by how you dress and who you hang out with.
I attended Orchard View High School for 2 years; my freshman year and sophomore year. I will say that most of the teachers and staff were very friendly and caring, though I feel like I was not motivated to do as well as I am doing now at a different high school. I do not believe they did an efficient job pushing me to succeed and get the help I needed. I felt as if I did not belong there during my years at OV District for a number of reasons. I believe that OVHS could do better in discipline with attendance, tolerance and a list of issues that are not dealt with in a mature manner. No high school is perfect, but I feel that OVHS could improve in many different areas.
As a former Orchard View Student Graduate 2002, I do not believe Orchard view has done an excellent job at teaching and advocating a styling technique that would prepare students to be whatever they want. I was told not to aim high and was set aside because i wasn't considered 'Outgoing'. I did go to college, and i did make it, because it angered me so much that i had to do it on my own. So I do agree that Orchard View is the worst school of helping students with college. And they should strive more.
As a former student of Orchard View Schools, I am disgusted by the school district. The school refuses to offer AP classes to their students and overall simply does not prepare them for a college-level education. The goal at OV is to be mediocre. The administration does not strive to excellence but rather hopes merely to be acceptable. Students are not expected to go on to four year universities but are instead expected to go to community college or join the labor force. Counselors start in middle school telling students not to set their goals too high because they will inevitably disappointed later on. I would not trust Orchard View to educate my child and I hope that others would not either.
I do not think Orchard View is a very good School district. Although there are some aspects of the school that are good, I do not believe the district prepares students well enough for college level school work. Their English, Writing and Math curriculum do not cover the basic needs for college preperation. I also believe that they do not pay enough attention to the arts and all they care about is sports, especially football. One teacher even admitted to the students that she went to college to be a cheer leader.
The teachers and faculty at OV schools are very interactive with the students and most view the whole person, not just the academic. My children will leave OV with a very well rounded education as well as teachers that they have called friends as well as role models. Except for some attendance and discipline policies I would rate OV highest on all ratings.
