Wonderful school...caring staff and awesome PTO. The teachers are very encouraging and they are a "bucket filling" school! Two thumbs up!

My daughter went here beginning in Kindergarten 2001 to Jan. 2004. We loved the principal, secretaries, teachers and support staff at this school, we still miss them, but the parents at the time were much to be desired. We weren't originally from Newaygo, so we were treated like 'outsiders' by those parents. Never encountered that again since moving to the other side of the state.

Vera Wilsie is a great school. The teachers are very caring with a excellent Principal that we hate to see leaving. We just moved here to Mich. From Cali. where the Teachers and Principal just seemed to busy to even know your name. So I am very happy with Vera Wilsie one of the highlights of Having to move to Newaygo was seeing My Daughter flourish in her Kindergarten where at her old one she Struggled everyday.. That to me is everything

The teachers are definitely very caring. The school seems to be very concerned with teaching manners, how to say no to drugs and how to cut and color. I feel they are behind other schools in our area for Reading and Math. The scores of their MEAP tests in the Upper Elementary School support this. It has been my experience that parents need to do more than stay involved; they need to be willing and able to accept some responsibility for teaching the children and they must stay informed about what their child should be learning (what children in other areas are learning) throughout the year so they can fill in the gaps, if necessary.

I transferred my children from Grand Rapids Public Schools to Vera Wilsie Elementary School. and I just have to say, They are Great! my children have learned so much here. In G.R. the school didn't care. here, they take time with my children and show them how to do things, rather than pass them to the next grade just to get rid of them. now when I ask them 'What did you learn today?' They actually have something to tell me. Thanks.

There are some decent teachers at this school. The school does not want to leave anyone behind. However, there is not a push to get the students to excel. If students leave to go to another district, I believe they would be behind.

About these ratings

The Community Rating is the school’s average rating from its community members (e.g., parents, students, and school staff). The highest possible rating is five stars; the lowest is one star.

Oops! We currently do not have any test score information for this school. Public and charter school test scores for most states come from the state Department of Education. The most common reasons we might not have this data are either that not enough students took the test or that the school was recently opened, and its scores have not yet been reported.
