I attended North Branch Area Schools for my whole life until my senior year when my sister and I moved to Warren. Before we moved i thought that NBHS was not the best because of the slight favoritism they show towards volleyball players, but after attending Cousino High School where if you are a football player or cheerleader you are practically a god. As far as teachers go, the teachers at NBHS were respectful and involved in education (there are always exceptions). The asistant principle, Mr. Sherman, has a bad case of little man's syndrome and seems to be out to make any student that does any little thing wrong punished to the full. This does seem help to keep the distractions of attention thirsty students to a minimum. The head principle Mr. Hiltunen is very kind and inturested in students well-being. Somehow he knows just about everyone's name. He knew mine and i had never been in trouble or done anything else to stand out. Overall, i loved the amout of respect between students and staff, must be the small town hospitality, and NBHS prepared me very well for the ACT with practise for it almost every day. I loved this school so much and hope it stays great for my children.
I moved my kids out of the system. I was not satisfied with the second chance / ok to mess up and retest philosipy. I would not want my doctor to have gone there.... Very close minded administation in the HS.
i attend north branch high school and its my last year here. i came here last year and i absoluetly love it. its so well structured and all the teachers are so very nice.and all the curricular activites are so much fun. it may be a big school but its so nice and fun. i look forward to going to school here and seeing all my friends. im going to miss it when i graduate.
I am going to take my student out of north branch schools, they are so set on growing that students are getting lost in the cracks. I plan on moving my child to another school in the area.
I must compliment all of the hard work and efforts of the Teaching staff. The support staff does an excellant job of interacting with the students and directing 'problem' situations to the proper Administrators.
I go to this school and i'd have to say after the new renovations its probably one of the best high schools in the country
I feel that the athletic part of school is held higher in esteem than the academics part. I agree that athletics are important, however schools need to start worrying more about our children's education than the score of a football game. Athletes need to pay to play, and schools need to put sports on the back burner and studies on the front. I had two children graduate from here and one was a total athlete while the other was not. My un-athletic child had to get special permission to join a conditioning class that was offered in school. Who are these people to say that one child is better for a class than another due just to a sport he plays? We as tax payers deserve to have equal classes for our children. Maybe if all children were considered equal, we would have less overweight kids. Get real North Branch!
I went to North Branch from K-12 and you now what I'm glad I did! All the schools have great things to say about them but here is one. It prepared me for college and help me graduated with honors. Yes there is a couple of things that could be fixed but very school as a fault somewhere! They have many different class to help you on the road to college! I also was on the track team, the school showed support for not only us but all the sports and clubs that the school as to offer! When your looking for a great school make sure you check North Branch High School! ~nicole~
Most of the teachers are very willing to help the students that are willing to help themselves. The athletics dept. lacks people skills. They are unapproachable. For some reason this staff doesn't allow quality, experienced, and mature outsiders in. A very clicky organization.
I went to North Branch and I have to say that it is a great school. I went on to college and if it wouldn't have been for the school I wouldn't have known what to do. Coming from a large family where no on went to college before me, I really had no idea where to start but the school helped me get things going and get into school. For people who say the school is so bad, how many of you have sat down and talked with people who have gone to an inner city school and heard what they go through? This school might now be the absolute best, but what school is? Someone will find something wrong with every school. However I have talked to inner city people and I would NEVER trade North Branch High school for anything!
I am pleased with the teachers not only at the high school but in the district. At the high school there are a wide variety of courses offered. The teachers are helpful and professional. I would not hesitate to reccomend this school to anyone. Although my student knows that he/she is expected to do homework and study at home it is obvious that not all parents are as concerend about what their children are doing. There needs to be more parental support and backing behind the teachers. This school has a lot to offer! Keep up the great job teachers!
I am appauled at North Branch High School. I have seen the laziness of the teachers and the way they allow the students to dress...something needs to change. If they are raising the leaders of tomorrow, then our world is gonna be in rough shape in 20 years time!
This is the most horrible school I've ever seen. The administration is poor to say the least. They have the most unprofessional high school principal I've ever seen.
I recently graduated from NBHS and have to agree that as a rural school system I couldn't have asked for anything more. The teachers would do anything in their power to help their students succed not only in the classroom but outside to. I felt that the councelors could have done better trying to prep our students on not only wanting a bright future, but on achieving it. During the freshman year it would have helped if they taught the students to plan out their classes over the four years to achieve sucess, and be there to help with their plans for after college. i was very dissapointed to know that there were a certain few who would turn their back on students goals and tell them to find another for they couldn't achieve them. They need to build up our students not knock them down!
As an alumni, NBHS is a country school and the curricula somewhat reflects that. While I feel that the academia was not lacking with regards to preparation for college, the counseling could have used much work. Being a rural school, it should be understood that many students have parents who never went to college. I, for one, had incredible test scores, but didn't have a college listed. I had no idea what to do if I couldn't afford college. I was never once approached (and honestly didn't think of initiating contact) by the counseling staff. I am now a mechanical engineer working on an MBA, but it took me a long while and many mistakes to figure out how to do it on my own.
The band program is the best of its kind. Can not give the instructors enuff credit for showing real teamwork.
