I attended this school 20 years ago and was thrilled to have my son attending there. Until I saw the lack of leadership and teachers that don't care. Brandon schools have went down hill a lot over the years. I am looking to pull my son and move him to another school district.

A principal not qualified to be one is in way over her head. Communication from the school is abysmal. There is no leadership there! No lockers. Very cramped. Shady location. We are considering other options for our kids next year.

My son is in the special education program at Belle Ann. Although it is a new program, it has been implemented in a very professional and thoughtful way. I have really appreciated the willingness of the members of the special education team to go the extra mile for my son.

Belle Ann has the potential to be an excellent school. The teachers and parents are second to none. If this school had a principal who exemplified higher moral standards, there could be little else to be desired.

About the tests

In 2012-2013 Michigan used the Michigan Educational Assessment Program (MEAP) to test students in grades 3 through 8 in math, reading and writing; in grades 5 and 8 in science; and in grades 6 and 9 in social studies. The MEAP is a standards-based test, which measures how well students are mastering specific skills defined for each grade by the state of Michigan. The goal is for all students to score at or above the proficient level.

Beginning in the 2011-2012 school year, the Michigan State Board of Education implemented new definitions of what it means to be proficient on the MEAP test. The new standards for proficiency are higher than in previous years and the percent of students earning a proficient score is expected to be lower as a result of this change.
