My twins are currently in Kindergarden at Harvey Swanson and love it. They were preemies when they were born and were a bit behind in school, but with the extra attention they received at Harvey Swanson, they will both be advancing to 1st grade. I feel if the staff hadn't given my children the extra materials and extra help they needed, they would not have advanced to 1st grade. They have given my children the great start they needed to begin their academic adventure through school. They are great with the kids.

Harvey-Swanson is an outstanding school to learn in as well as to have that true 'School Family' feeling. All 3 of my children attended this wonderful school and I myself worked there for 12 years. Principal Dr Helen C Clemetsen is first class! All the years I was apart of this school, the facilty was friendly and supportive. A Great place for children to learn and feel safe and loved.

HS Elementary has been excellent! We moved out of the state and are hoping that our son's new school will be as good as HS. Dr. Clemenson is wonderful and the school's programs for the children are top notch.

I am very happy with Harvey Swanson. The school offers many programs for the children. During the lunch time recess there is a running club to promote heathy living. The children have punch cards when thay run a lap thay get a mark, after so many they get a reward. I feel all the schools in the district should have this program. They have clubs after school(Chess Club). The school just had a fantastic science fair. A lot of factors go into making a good school not just the MEAP scores. The teachers, principal, the staff the overall environment and I feel Harvey Swanson has all that. I feel it is the best elementy school in the district. I highly recomend the school to any one looking for a great K-4th school.

In my opinion this is one of the best schools in Oakland County. My daughter went from K-4 and my son is currently in first grade. I have not had any problems with any of the teachers or principal. In fact I feel that they are really very concerned for my children learning. If I have a concern it is acted on very promptly. Dr. Clementson has to be one of the best principals around she's very personable seems to know all students. I would grade this school A+.

About the tests

In 2012-2013 Michigan used the Michigan Educational Assessment Program (MEAP) to test students in grades 3 through 8 in math, reading and writing; in grades 5 and 8 in science; and in grades 6 and 9 in social studies. The MEAP is a standards-based test, which measures how well students are mastering specific skills defined for each grade by the state of Michigan. The goal is for all students to score at or above the proficient level.

Beginning in the 2011-2012 school year, the Michigan State Board of Education implemented new definitions of what it means to be proficient on the MEAP test. The new standards for proficiency are higher than in previous years and the percent of students earning a proficient score is expected to be lower as a result of this change.
