I would like for the person who gave this school 1 star to explain her comment about the principal? She seems very kind and caring.

Last year we were researching our options, even considering other districts. We were very excited and relieved when this school was introduced. We've been impressed with the course work, and to see our ddaughter excel in school. They provoke a can-do atmosphere, and it's incredible what a child can accomplish when we don't hold them back. We, and of course our child, have learned much this year. We will be sending our next 2 children here, as they reach school age. We love the mixed grades within the class. It seems like this overlap of grade levels, ensures the ease of teaching the children at the level they are each ready to pursue. That and passionate teachers that work together to make this happen. We hope they continue to expand the program.

Last year, we had both our kids registered for the local public school when we saw the notice about Brandon Academy in the Citizen. With one child enjoying the attention of all classroom eyes, and the other being shy in large groups, we thought the small classrooms would be perfect to address both needs. We have been absolutely THRILLED! Mrs. Campbell, the principal, is encouraging, accessible, and actively involved with all the students. With it's small classrooms, every student knows everyone else and all the teachers know all the students - it's like a family. And I can't lie about being happy that the smaller size has resulted in virtually no sickness in our home this winter! Academically, each child is encouraged to excel and afforded opportunities to stretch to higher achievements. Learning extends beyond the 3 R's to presentations and public speaking, marketing, and outside-the-box thought. I couldn't be happier that we made this change. I look forward to the coming years at the Academy and hope to see them expand curriculum (foreign languages would be nice) and grades (yup, the 8th graders don't want to leave)! This school is a GEM!!!

I have 3 children attending this school. They have an outstanding staff - they are dedicated, extremely knowledgeable and possess wonderful and unique methods for engaging the kids. They love teaching and it shows. No stopping them either - if something needs to be done they all pitch in and get it done. Amazing example for the the kids and very different from the usual 'not my problem' attitude found in public schools. School has small classes, individual attention and a 'family' type atmosphere. Required subjects band, choir, drama, economics, environmental science - in addition to standards like gym & art - are wonderful extras to help the kids develop new interests and important life skills. I don't think I can say enough great things about this school - it has been a lifesaver and a blessing for our family. The only bad thing is it doesn't go beyond 8th grade :(. We have had experience at nearly all the schools in the district - this school is a diamond in the rough.

About these ratings

The Community Rating is the school’s average rating from its community members (e.g., parents, students, and school staff). The highest possible rating is five stars; the lowest is one star.

Oops! We currently do not have any test score information for this school. Public and charter school test scores for most states come from the state Department of Education. The most common reasons we might not have this data are either that not enough students took the test or that the school was recently opened, and its scores have not yet been reported.

What is the GreatSchools Rating?

The GreatSchools rating is a simple tool for parents to compare schools based on test scores, student academic growth, and college readiness. It compares schools across the state, where the highest rated schools in the state are designated as “Above Average” and the lowest “Below Average.” It is designed to be a starting point to help parents make baseline comparisons. We always advise parents to visit the school and consider other information on school performance and programs, as well as consider their child's and family's needs as part of the school selection process.
