Teacher effectiveness: Very effective

It's a small staff of very kind and caring teachers. The kids take comfort in knowing the entire staff well before they reach that grade level. I cannot say enough about how wonderful these teachers are here. They go above and beyond for these students and it shows.

We have a wonderful "community" within our small school setting. We have considerate staff that puts the needs of our children first. We have exceeded the state averages on our MEAP scores in 2013-2014 and we exceeded district wide and national levels for the NWEA testing. Children can be themselves and learn within a fun atmosphere from kindergarten through eighth grade. I am so glad that there is a school with smaller class sizes, where our children will get the one on one attention they need and deserve.

Love the small class sizes and the blended classes. I love how, because of the small classes, they know my daughter and can keep and eye on her.

I love the atmosphere, relationships among the kids and staff, and the positive attitude and character education that is taught every day. I could not ask for a better environment to work in or to have my children in.

This school is the best thing to come to our district. The teachers are amazing! The students are able to learn in a more hand on approach manner; the multi-age classrooms create a community of learners who respect each other as well as support one another. 5th through 8th graders all play instruments and Learning to play music helps these children by stimulating both sides of the brain to encourage well rounded students. An extra bonus is that the principal is the band teacher. She connects and cares about the children. All four of my children who all learn differently have done better than in the traditional classroom. I highly recommend this style of style. I feel extremely blessed that my children attend this school. Thank you Brandon School District for the academy!

We have been so happy with Brandon Academy! My 6th grade is excelling where she has struggled before and both of my girls have developed a strong love for learning and for their teachers. The structure of this school provides a wonderful family atmosphere and many benefits of a private school in a public school setting.

I would like for the person who gave this school 1 star to explain her comment about the principal? She seems very kind and caring.

Last year we were researching our options, even considering other districts. We were very excited and relieved when this school was introduced. We've been impressed with the course work, and to see our ddaughter excel in school. They provoke a can-do atmosphere, and it's incredible what a child can accomplish when we don't hold them back. We, and of course our child, have learned much this year. We will be sending our next 2 children here, as they reach school age. We love the mixed grades within the class. It seems like this overlap of grade levels, ensures the ease of teaching the children at the level they are each ready to pursue. That and passionate teachers that work together to make this happen. We hope they continue to expand the program.

Last year, we had both our kids registered for the local public school when we saw the notice about Brandon Academy in the Citizen. With one child enjoying the attention of all classroom eyes, and the other being shy in large groups, we thought the small classrooms would be perfect to address both needs. We have been absolutely THRILLED! Mrs. Campbell, the principal, is encouraging, accessible, and actively involved with all the students. With it's small classrooms, every student knows everyone else and all the teachers know all the students - it's like a family. And I can't lie about being happy that the smaller size has resulted in virtually no sickness in our home this winter! Academically, each child is encouraged to excel and afforded opportunities to stretch to higher achievements. Learning extends beyond the 3 R's to presentations and public speaking, marketing, and outside-the-box thought. I couldn't be happier that we made this change. I look forward to the coming years at the Academy and hope to see them expand curriculum (foreign languages would be nice) and grades (yup, the 8th graders don't want to leave)! This school is a GEM!!!

I have 3 children attending this school. They have an outstanding staff - they are dedicated, extremely knowledgeable and possess wonderful and unique methods for engaging the kids. They love teaching and it shows. No stopping them either - if something needs to be done they all pitch in and get it done. Amazing example for the the kids and very different from the usual 'not my problem' attitude found in public schools. School has small classes, individual attention and a 'family' type atmosphere. Required subjects band, choir, drama, economics, environmental science - in addition to standards like gym & art - are wonderful extras to help the kids develop new interests and important life skills. I don't think I can say enough great things about this school - it has been a lifesaver and a blessing for our family. The only bad thing is it doesn't go beyond 8th grade :(. We have had experience at nearly all the schools in the district - this school is a diamond in the rough.

Profile Completeness

INTERMEDIATE

Want to improve this school's profile?

All schools on GreatSchools begin with BASIC completeness, which includes important information like contact details and test scores. It’s up to the school community to take the next steps. As a parent or community member, you can share what you know with other families by writing a review or answering a few questions about what the school offers. As a school leader, you can upload photos, describe school programs, and more with an Official school profile.

The completeness meter moves to INTERMEDIATE, then ADVANCED, and finally HONOR ROLL as you complete the following: 10 or more reviews, at least 1 photo, and 9 program questions parents find helpful.
