I am a student attending the school currently. All I have to say is poor. The school district is broke!!! There is NO BUSING for the high school, so parents, you need to drive your students. The school also cares more about sports than anything. The teachers are not the greatest either and the learning level is not very high. So parents, if you want to drive your child to school every morning, go to a school with financial problems where teachers are cut and classrooms are full with almost 40 kids then chose Richmond. If you do care about education more than sports than chose a different school. I am a student and feel like i dont have enough homework. (spend about 30 minutes of my week on homework). Dont chose richmond!
I am a former RHS graduate. I went on to be a sucessful attorney and have nothing but positive things to say about my education in the Richmond school system. I would send my children there without any hesitation.
Overall, I am very disappointed with the Richmond School District. The administration is difficult to work with and they are more concerned with supporting the district than the well-being of the children. The extracurricular activities are limited. The only positive aspect are that they do have many good teachers. I would not recommend any child to attend Richmond Schools.
Richmond High school very rarely does have parent involvement. The learning atmosphere is cramped, often hard to concentrate in. Not only that, with so many kids in such a small school with not enough money, extracurricular activities are becoming limited, which obviously keeps kids unattended and uninterested, leaving more room for them to trouble amongst town or just in general, which is a proven fact. The school is not a horrible one, but if it keeps up with this and we have no support from the community than it will become one.
I highly doubt that you have emailed Dr. Bird. He is very good at responding as he is one the best things that has happened to this school district. We are lucky to have him. He could go to another, much larger district in a heartbeat. Since he has been here, test scores have improved. It isn't his fault that the community doesn't get it and doesn't support education! And, continuing to push the no vote just to spite Dr. Bird only hurts the kids. Our schools are very good but the community needs to support a bond.
The school overall is not bad it's the fact the BOND did not pass due to the voter's LACK of knowledge and support for our childrens educational future. The school NEEDS improvments in learning programs and updated technology for the students in all grades k-12. For the SMALL increase in taxes would have made a HUGE difference in the success of each child's (k-12)future. But the BRAND NEW senior recreation BUILDING sits empty with a few seniors sitting around a table conversating? They didn't even use it this past VERY HOT summer for the camp kids who sit outside 25 feet away from there new air-conditioned building! What are the children going to get out of this necessity when they can't even go in it or use it? Again, the community itself is good but VERY divided on the school BOND issue, which is desepartely NEEDED NOW!
The education that the children are receiving is good. But the administration in the District needs a major overhaul. I have sent e-mails to Dr. Bird months ago and am still waiting for a reply. They are pushing for a new school, but will not answer taxpayers questions. I will continue to push for the 'NO' vote.
Our academic programes are extremly limited. They have collage bound or resorce thats it. Our other classes are good such as music and art. I think Our school dosen't have many parents involved becouse they don't want any one to tell them that there not doing good enough. Thats what I've seen from this school.
This school is an excellent school if you want good students. Although, the administration in the High School is incompetent and does not care very much about the students at all. This facility tends to favor students of the athletic origin and academic programs are not considered as highly as the athletic program. A few years ago when there was a bond given to this school they spent it towards new athletic facilities, but said it was for new class rooms. They received two new classrooms out of the old cafeteria, a distance learning lab, and a new stadium. Now that the school needs new classrooms due to complete over crowding they can't get the community to sponsor a bond for a new facility to be built. I would not recommend your children going to this school.
