This school doesn't look the prettiest on the exterior but its whats at the heart that matters, Teachers and Administrators who truly care. A good percentage of Parents who do what they can to assist teachers in any way they can. The worst thing about this school is the percentage of people who are just negative and not willing to support issues and teachers but rather knock down them. People who just want to complain and not really offer help just negative comments. Other than that its a good learning environment for the kids.
Parental involvement in the school is outstanding, parents are very willing to assist the teachers. The teachers have abused this power and now expect a lot of assistance from home. The parents are now responsible to teach their children, they are usually held responsible their childrens lack of education. When a person works full time and has multiple children, this is almost impossible. If I wanted to teach my children to read and do their arithmatic I would have home schooled them. I am very involved with my childrens education, more than most of the parents I know. I care about my childs education, not just whether they are getting passing grades. This is their future! I dont care about the parking lot, and for the record none of my children have ever had more than 24 pupils in their classroom.
Parking is terrible and drop off is even worse. I hope this issue is worked on for the up and coming school year. Otherwise its a great school!
I currently have two children in this school. There's a lot of good to be said about Will L. Lee Elementary, but one of the concerns I have is class size. One child has 28 children in his class to one teacher, and the other child has 27 to one teacher. That's too many. We have lost our computer classes and our buses have K through 12 on them all at once. Not good. The parking lot is bumper to bumper with parents driving their children, without adequate parking spots. However, on the positive side, the curriculum taught is outstanding. In my opinion it is the best around, and our MEAP scores reflect this. Parents are very involved.
My oldest child has attended Will L. Lee Elementary for four years now. He began in the PPI program (now called the ECDD program)This is a preschool program offered for children who have speech and language difficulties. I was very impressed with the program and the progress that my child made. Since that time, with budget cuts, came the cutting of computers in the school until grade six! This disgusted me. How could any educational institution come to the conclusion in this day and age that cutting of computers when our children are most receptive to learning is of any benefit. In my opinion, this will only provide my child with a disadvantage.
