The new principal is fantastic in motivating the children. The teachers actually teach to each child's level of learning. I see parents coming and going all day long to support the classrooms. This is a GREAT school.

We moved here in 2009. Previously we had educated our children in both public & private schools in northern & southern states, and had researched the local schools here thoroughly. Pleasant Ridge is a wonderful, high quality school, with a nurturing and progressive educational environment. The teachers are professional and the administrators are responsive; overall, it's very well organized school. The facility itself is great (check out the music room!).

All the teachers genuinely care about their students. The principle is encouraging to the students and the staff. And the parents in the community care about their school and children as well.

We have been so happy with this school. The principal and teachers go out of their way to do what is best for the kids. They use best practices, are really involved with the parents, and easy to communicate with. It is a great community school, where the parents, students, teachers and staff really are working together as a family to help all of our kids get an excellent education!

Its now secret, this the best school district in the county. I moved to this community especially to give my son every opportunity. Took him out of a private monessori program without regret. Good program, new high school and special programs.

Our son is now a fourth grader, and we have been very pleased with all aspects of the school. He is mildly ADD, so we have had a lot of contact with the principle as well as other support personnel. All have been professional and responsive to his educational needs. His teachers have all been excellent, though conscientious of our son's limitations they have not reduced their expectations for him in any area.

I have had children at Pleasant Ridge Elementary for four years, and the experience has been great. The principal is excellent and very accessible to parents. The teachers are top notch. The layout of the school and playground facilities are the best. Every classroom has a door that leads outside, which is an important safety element in case of fire, school intruder, etc. Also, the school is tucked in a nice neighborhood, and would be difficult to find if you didn't know it was there. The students go to specials in Art, Music, Media, PE, and Quest (science). Lots of parent involvement. There is more socioeconomic and cultural diversity at Pleasant Ridge than the other local elementary schools, which we prefer. The only downside to the school is the lack of parking, which makes pick-up and drop-off difficult.

Over all, the school is ok. I am not very impressed with some of the teachers and feel a few of them should retire because they are obviously burned out. The school has old equipment while the other elementry schools in Saline have newer equipment. The school district just made a bunch of cut backs so some of the teachers were laid off. They also just laid off the school social worker so now there is no social worker on site at this school

I have have children in this school for 8 years . My oldest has ADD and was in the gifted and talented program. My youngest is completing his last year now. Both are completely different personalities but the school was good for both. The staff has been excellent about properly placing the children with the right teachers. The have been open to all discussions and have been help with both academics and personal issues. I can recommend this school highly. We very carefully scrutinized the all the schools within commuting distance for our daugthers placement. The school was the best choice for her academically and emotionally. It was a wonderfully experience for both of my kids.

About the tests

In 2013-2014 Michigan used the Michigan Educational Assessment Program (MEAP) to test students in grades 3 through 8 in math, reading and writing; in grades 5 and 8 in science; and in grades 6 and 9 in social studies. Currently, GreatSchools' ratings reflect 2013 MEAP results; ratings will be updated after 2014 Michigan Merit Examination (MME) results are released. The MEAP is a standards-based test, which measures how well students are mastering specific skills defined for each grade by the state of Michigan. The goal is for all students to score at or above the proficient level.

Beginning in the 2011-2012 school year, the Michigan State Board of Education implemented new definitions of what it means to be proficient on the MEAP test. In addition, they have recalculated past years' results using these new standards for proficiency, making the above year-over-year results comparable.

What is the GreatSchools Rating?

The GreatSchools rating is a simple tool for parents to compare schools based on test scores, student academic growth, and college readiness. It compares schools across the state, where the highest rated schools in the state are designated as “Above Average” and the lowest “Below Average.” It is designed to be a starting point to help parents make baseline comparisons. We always advise parents to visit the school and consider other information on school performance and programs, as well as consider their child's and family's needs as part of the school selection process.
