My daughter has attended Soo Twp for three years. We are an out of district family that choose Soo Twp. The school environment is a community of staff and parents. The teachers put thier students first and communicate with parents through various media and personal communication. The PTO is very active and inviting.

My two sons have gone to Soo Township since Kindergarten. This school is way behind academically. The students are not treated well and the teachers do not keep in touch with the parents.

My daughter attend kindergarten at Soo township school last fall. It was a amazing experience. All staff members put the children's interest first. The School has developed a behavior plan that is used through out the school and the children have ownership in the positive program. The academics are above the standards and children excell in all areas. The PTO is very active in many areas. The school always welcomes parents at any time.

Our daughter attended Soo Twp school for grades 3-5 and she had a great experience. She was challenged daily and she had teachers who really cared about her. She entered Middle School 2 years ago and she has been at the top of her class the entire time. The teachers there put in tons of extra time and even gave the kids their home phone numbers in case there was a homework question--now that is dedication! We think that Soo Twp did a great job with the kids. The principal is kind and considerate and the kids seem to thrive in the positive environment. We have another child who is starting kindergarten in the fall and Soo Twp was our first choice for her as well.

About the tests

In 2012-2013 Michigan used the Michigan Educational Assessment Program (MEAP) to test students in grades 3 through 8 in math, reading and writing; in grades 5 and 8 in science; and in grades 6 and 9 in social studies. The MEAP is a standards-based test, which measures how well students are mastering specific skills defined for each grade by the state of Michigan. The goal is for all students to score at or above the proficient level.

Beginning in the 2011-2012 school year, the Michigan State Board of Education implemented new definitions of what it means to be proficient on the MEAP test. The new standards for proficiency are higher than in previous years and the percent of students earning a proficient score is expected to be lower as a result of this change.
