I'm a teacher at Washington School, it is a wonderful place for children to learn. Even though we don't have a lot of money to spend on frills we give our students the best education possible. Would you expect anything less from a Michigan Blue Ribbon School? We were the very first elementary school in the U.P. to become a Blue Ribbon School. The majority of our teachers have Master Degrees and continue taking courses and work shops to up grade their skills. If you're looking for a school for child, check us out--you won't be disappointed. Washington School Teacher

The opportunities that teachers at this school go above and beyond to provide to the students, parents and families is outstanding. The principal is the best int eh district and is ivolved with his students both inside and outside the classroom. The entire staff promote an atmosphere of good moral conduct and expectation of responsiblity to the entire school from the students. Clara James

My son goes to Washington Elementary. The school I feel is a good school. I am very disappointed in the Sault Area Schools website. The elementary schools are not linked to the main website. Once you find the elementary schools, I have not found a link to contact the administration or principle. You are unable to find a school menu published. The option is on the Pac Family access but they do not publish. Very irritating. I have had to request a menu several times this past year and it is Jan 05 and again I have no lunch menu. If you publish it on a the Sault Website, I could just print one out.

About the tests

In 2012-2013 Michigan used the Michigan Educational Assessment Program (MEAP) to test students in grades 3 through 8 in math, reading and writing; in grades 5 and 8 in science; and in grades 6 and 9 in social studies. The MEAP is a standards-based test, which measures how well students are mastering specific skills defined for each grade by the state of Michigan. The goal is for all students to score at or above the proficient level.

Beginning in the 2011-2012 school year, the Michigan State Board of Education implemented new definitions of what it means to be proficient on the MEAP test. The new standards for proficiency are higher than in previous years and the percent of students earning a proficient score is expected to be lower as a result of this change.
