Unfortunately I have to agree with the majority of one star rating posts. This school is mainly concerned with "customer" satisfaction and not with educating "clients" or students. The five star ratings do seem suspicious or planted/posted by the company. If you send your child to this school you can be sure your child will pass to the next grade but will not be in most cases ready for the next level. I give this school two stars for the teachers that remain at the school who are doing their best to help the few students who do want to learn.
Bradford is a great place to work & Choice Schools is a great management company to work for. The teachers care deeply about the kids here, the assistant principals are stellar, and the management company has dedicated their resources to turning this school into something to be proud of. I'm proud of what Bradford has become.
As a new parent of Bradford, I have to admit that I was attracted to the bussing program they offered this year. Especially since Pre-K was to be picked up and dropped off at the front door of their homes . However, by the end of the second week of school we were told they will discontinuie bussing as of October 4th for Pre-K due to budgeting. I find it very convenient for this service to be canceled after count day only to leave the students high and dry after a month of school. The communication at the school is horrible as it is been almost impossible to get a person on the phone to get answers. I have transferred my child to a new school. Count me out!
Wow..I don't even know where to start. This school is horrible. I worked for this school and it was so unorganized and choatic. Let's not discuss the curriculum or the lack of. The teachers were good but the management company was very bad. On top of it all, the school had predominately African American students but mainly white female teachers..so sad. Do your research and send your kids to a GOOD school.
As the past reviews have said, Bradford is no school for your children. The school has many great teachers that are extremely undervalued and overworked. The management company says they care about student achievement and their learning, which they should as higher performance will bring in more money for them. Yet so much they do is detrimental to the school climate and student learning. This past year saw many teachers leaving or being fired mid-year or earlier. Some were even fired mid-day when they had classes to teach after lunch. This turn-over rate makes the school feel unstable and makes for a difficult learning environment. Please do right by your children and send them to a more reliable school.
Bradford Academy is not the school you want to send your children to. The management company- Choice Schools Associates treats the school like a business......not a school. The owner Sid Faucette is only out to make money, not better the school. He does not care about the students or staff. He would rather hire just out of college teachers so he can pay them less, and would rather get rid of veteran teachers who truly care about the students. He has said..."if you don't like it here, there are 3000 people around the corner who can do your job." That is not how you treat great teachers. Bradford is going through another major change this year. A wonderful elementary principal and vice principal left because they could not watch the school go down the way it is. And it's going to lose many more veteran teachers because of the way Mr. Faucette runs the company. Good luck to those who are bringing their children here.....you are going to need it.
The good reviews on this site seem very suspect. I was just reading in the Southfieldnewspaper how this school is now offering bus services..... So I thought it might be great to perform some investigating.... If this school is so great, then why are the test scores disastrous????? Why does it seem as if adults wrote all of the student reviews????? If I can't believe in the reviews, I'm certainly not going to trust the educators at this school. Just sad.
The positive remarks on here are fake, the owner told the staff they needed to post positive remarks and send it to admin to prove it. This is the worst school I have been too. The turn over of staff is over 50 percent per year, even more if you factor those who leave mid year. Admin has had a 3 yr turn over each year. Sid the owner runs choice schools as a for profit company, so he runs the school as cheap as possible and the rest goes to the management company (common in charter schools). Good teachers were let go to hire cheaper new teachers (average making 32- 35 k). Support staff and counselors let go only to hire a cheaper version and incorporate a free program by the county and call that counseling. Admin nor teachers send their kids to the school that's how great it is! Test scores on ACT/MME/ MEAP which can be seen at Michigan.gov show the scores are dreary at best and way below state average. Even below many other local schools such as Southfield and A few Detroit schools. Also known the board was suspended in Jan for about 4 mo and the co-owner and CEO Pam quit without reason in Jan. Does this sound like the stable school for you and your child? Move on
All staff is leaving for better opportunities and the school is going down the hole. Enrollment has dropped drastically and staff moral sucks. FIND ANOTHER SCHOOL FOR YOUR CHILDREN.
Bradford Academy is a school that definitely puts the needs of their students first and foremost. The teachers are highly qualified and teach a wide array of classes to keep the budding interests of students alive. The events that are held are well organized and are always a memorable occasion for students and staff. One of the things I like best at BAHS is that communication is always done in a timely fashion for both students and parents, always keeping the students "in the know". I give high marks for this high school and will continue to give praise as changes are continuing to be made to keep BAHS a competitive and ever growing, high achieving school.
Bradford Academy is a awesome school . We have great teachers and the learning is excellent. teachers teach us so we can be prepared for our future, our principle does an excellent job in keeping our school in order; by wearing our uniforms everyday, and making sure we are prepared. As for the academics in our school we have lots of activities for students to participate in like track, volleyball, football, basketball, etc. So i can proudly say that i would advise anyone that Bradford Academy is is good school to send there kids to and that when they attend here they would have a wonderful learning experience.
If you want true reviews of this school , you need to go back about 9 months to one year . Most of the reviews praising the school recently have been placed by the administration not the students, parents , or staff. The teachers are treated very poorly here. If they treat the teachers horribly , how do outthink they will treat our children ? After, personally overhearing , a conversation between administration and a teacher , I decided this was not where I wanted to send my two children . I took my children out Two weeks later . They are much happier in their new location. I believe Bradford has many good if not great teachers , they are just not being appreciated by the administration . Choice schools need to to try and retain the good teachers they have rather than trying to drive them away. Just more evidence that they don't care about your children . My son had three different tec teachers and two math teachers and two social studies teachers and substitutes that were too many to count ! This was all in one semester !
I decided to work at Bradford Academy after enrolling my child at this school because the staff is so professional and they truly care about the students learning in a positive and nurturing environment. The school provides all the necessary resources and technology to teach our 21st century students. The Smart Board in the classroom helps the students to be more engaged and enthusiastic about learning. Students are taught what they need to learn based on their individual goals. They participate in hands-on learning centers that helps them to increase the skills they need to master. Small group, whole group, and individualized instruction is used to help the students to achieve. Any students that need additional support to help them to achieve are tutored after school. The new administration is all about student achievement and providing a safe and productive learning environment. We have a strong PTA organization that is caring, involved and supportive of our students. I really enjoy working here and look forward to coming to work every day. The best way to experience Bradford Academy's greatness and see the difference is to visit our campus. You will be glad that you did!
Bradford Academy is by far a wonderful school that promotes a positive teaching environment for the many students who attent the institution. My son learned alot and was able to interact with a widely diverse student population which has enriched his learning process. Whenever there was an issue with my child the teachers would always contact me immediately to make me aware of any potential problems which I though was great. My son has by far obtained a quality education while attending Bradford Academy. Most importantly, Bradford Academy has come along way as a new school and I see many great things to come as they continue to grow.
I have been an educator at Bradford Academy for the past two years. I am proud to call Bradford home. I have been teaching for 6 years now, I have never worked with a more dedicated staff then here at Bradford. I feel that the relationship between parent, teacher, and student is so important, and it is one aspect that is so easy here. I am looking forward to being part of this amazing team for many years to come.
Bradford is in real trouble! The school is turning into a DPS school. They lost another VALUABLE staff member today. I am seriously thinking about removing my three children.
I think it is a great school. My grand children have been going there for three year. I know what they are doing everyday good or bad. The teachers are wonderful and are very easy to communicate with. I would like to becme a sub there and become apart of a great team.
Me and my three cousins have been going to bradford acdemy for about three years and from what i have been seeing this school is a great place for gets to learn because the learning standards are a hundred percent excellent the teachers have the kids on point this school is excellent the jantiors make sure the hallways are nice and neat for the guest the people that run the school is doing an excellent job just about everyday the classrooms doors are closed and the kids are and ready to learn. We have been doing good on are grades and are classwork whwn somethin is hard should we give up or should we go on students are scared to go on because they get emberresed but bradford can fix that so bring ur kids down here were students learn no stop.
I enrolled my children at the beginning of the 2008-09 school year. When I heard the principal, I decided to bring them and I am glad I did. Every moment has not been the best, but there is no perfect school. There was no real communication--now teachers use email, office hours and special meetings to reach out to parents. At first the PTA was absent--now you see them everywhere trying to get families involved. Discipline was shocking for the first year--now students who fight or endanger the school receive consequences for their actions. There is a new management company, new marketing, and new levels of accountability. Everything is not perfect, but you can see that everyone is trying. What I say to people who are and have been dissatisfied is, "what did you do to try to make things better?" If they can't answer that, then, they are probably somewhere else complaining. My son had to leave after the 8th grade because he chose to make decisions that would not be tolerated at Bradford Academy. The HS students are in their new uniforms with new attitudes. We have PreK now. Suffice to say, everyone has to find the best place for them--this is the place for my sons. New attitudes here.
Bradford Academy is NOT a school where you should be placing your child(ren). I attended Bradford Academy for 1 year and so far has been the worst year of school for me. Teachers are great but not in the ways you'd expect. They are great at teaching what they teach but they are teaching stuff that is to easy and or are teaching it wrong. I am at a new school as a Junior and have no idea how to do anything they are teaching at this school (It's suppose to be review, too), Bradford is behind with theie teaching and it may be due to the fact they are taking kids from different cities and some kids have a higher education then others. At this point though, it's a teachers job to create one on one time with the students but are unable to due to the fact that 1) Students are so disrespectful, and 'play' to much, that teachers have to babysit the students instead of teach and 2) no ones allowed in the pod in the morning until first bell and students are kicked out of the school the minute school ends unless for sport activities. Your kid will not get the education they need at this school and promise you that your child will not be "College Ready" by going to this school!
