I m not quite sure about this school. My daughter needs a challenge and I pulled her out of Southfield Public Schools in the fall of 2011 to attend Laurus Academy. Currently, she is in the most advanced class, but is bored. She has homework, but it only takes her a short time to complete. I did contact the dean and talked to her teachers, who agreed to give her more challenging work. She is still bored. Moreover, the math book that the other 7th graders (not the advanced class) are using is the same book that my daughter had last year (in 6th grade). I was assured that she was not being taught out of that book and that she is using a 7/8th grade book this year. That was a major concern at the beginning of the school year. I do, however, like the atmosphere. The teachers and administrative staff are all pleasant and know my child by name (she is not a number). And they all seem to care about my daughter s success (in and out of the classroom). My only problem is the curriculum. I think it could be beefed up a bit to compete with the SPS students. Teacher, principal & parent = 5 stars, Curriculum = 3 stars.

My 9th grader attended this school from 5-8th grade and I am more than pleased with this school...so much so, that I had to purchase at least two bookbags for her during the school year considering this school nurtures reading...unlike the current school she attends! My son started kindergarten at Laurus Academy and he has homework assignments and reading assignments weekly...admittedly...I have a hard time keeping up! Anyway, I have never had any issues with the teachers or the office staff, everyone seem friendly and professional...I would highly recommend this school...I only wish they offered a high school in the area!!!

I was excited about my daughters' enrollment in this school when then 2010 school year started. Now (less than 4 months ago)I can't wait for this year to end.My daughter loves this school but myself as a parent find the dean as well as the principal very unproffesion. The teachers are ok,but nothing to brag about ,and do get me started about the crazy parking lot.

My daughter has been at Laurus for 3 years now and we love it! She was an only child a very quiet, they found the perfect program and teacher for her. Now as a Second Grader my daughter is a social butterfly, very well spoken and a great student. She is reading chapter books and spelling words I learned to spell when I was in the 4th grade. All of my children will be students at Laurus Academy

I will be enrolling my daughter in Kindergarten at Laurus Academy in 2010. I was very impressed with my tour, the professional administrative faculty and teachers I was introduced to during my visit. From the overview, the curriculm is outstanding. The environment is inviting, clean and organized. The school is diversed and you can tell that the teachers and the entire faculty care and will nuture your child to be the best that they can be...letting their light shine academically and socially. I look forward to my daughter years at Laurus Academy.

It's really good school. The principal, both deans are very good along with teachers. I love that school. My daughter got very good scores. But, since the school is very far from our house, I have to take my daughter away. The school it's best to make your child shine in academics. Kavitha

Laurus is a prime example of how test scores don't tell the whole picture. The scores are low, but I've found that the greatest gift with this school is qualitative, rather than quantitative. The child's experience in this environment is priceless and this is coming from a parent that previously judged all schools based on MEAP scores. This school has the right environment, staff, and parental involvement to greatly improve those scores, without sacrificing the other things that make it a unique and nurturing environment for the child. I have a hard time reconciling my experience with the school and those scores. It's like there's some simple missing piece that will translate what the kids are learning and it showing up on their test scores. If you like structure and organization, you'll love this place.

My daughter came to Laurus in the 2nd grade from a private school along with few other students who came because of the catholic school closings at that time. The transiton went very well. I did prefer when the classes were set up based on test performance, however I didn't rush to change schools like some parents. Our daughter is performing exceptionally well academically and personally. The teachers really challenge the students to do their best. My daughter is now in the 7th grade. I have recommended this school to friends and family all have been very satisfied. Thank you Laurus Acadmey.

My son attends school at Laurus. When he tested in he tested at a pre-K level. within the first month of kindergarten he was up to speed and passing his class mates. The teacher and administrative staff really know what they are doin and they love doing it. They gave him the attention he needed to get up to speed. My son has been excelling at this school ever since. I love it!
