The best of the best! Not enough can be said about how great this school is! Mrs. Schippiacasse is a wonderful, caring, visible principal. She and her staff implement fantastic programs, including PBIS (positive behavior intervention system). Bullying is not tolerated! The teachers are second to none-proof that a strong principal produces a strong team. The previous principal, Mrs. Pastor, was also fantastic. She is currently the curriculum director for the district. This is THE BEST Southgate Elemetary in my opinion. Early intervention exists for kids who are even slightly struggling with math, writing or reading. Accelerated students have plenty of opportunities. The PTO is FANTASTIC!!! They are always there and do all kinds of amazing things for the kids! The parent involvement is fantastic! Truly a community school!

Chormann is an excellent school. The teachers and especially the principal Mrs. Pastor love what they do and it shows in their work. They allow plenty of parent involvement and have great parents running the PTO! My son has gone for 2 years now and I just can't say enough good things about our experience. He was pulled for reading recovery at the beginning of this year for extra help and I'm truly amazed at his progress. I feel great about our decision to send him there and very confident about sending my other two sons in the coming years!

I cannot say enough about this school and the staff there. My son is one of the youngest in his class and I worried about starting him in kindergarten when he wasn't yet 5. He has taken off both academically and socially since he started attending in 2009. He is now in first grade and I am continually amazed at the stuff he is learning. Mrs. Greene has been an exceptional teacher and Mrs. Pastor (principal) is dedicated and caring. I would highly recommend the school to anyone looking for a great educational experience for their child. My daughter will be starting kindergarten in the fall of this year and I can't wait to see how much she develops in this environment.

Mrs. Pastor runs a very safe, fun & educational school. She's great with the kids and the parents! Mrs. Wooten is a wonderful Kdgn/1st grade teacher. The parents are very involved at this school. The PTO is wonderful and puts on a ton of great family activities. We have loved our experience there and we are so glad we picked Chormann!

My children have been in Chormann for 10 yrs. total. I am super impressed with the teacher dedication and have always had excellent communication with them. My son tested above average on all his MEAP testing. I also love Jill Pastor (Principle), she is a kind woman who knows every child by name in that school. However, she is no nonsense and I feel that the parents and students respect her for that. Chormann is an excellent school.

I believe that Chorman Elementary school is the best school around. our son had been hear since K -4 and will be going hear for 5 th grade as well. The only thing is that I wish this school went up to 12th grade. The teachers, principle, and staff go above and beyond for each and every student. Thanks for starting him out with the best education.

This school is phenomenal. I have 2 children there. The oldest is in his 5th year. The teachers are energetic, dedicated, and engage with the students at an incredible level. The pricipal is highly involved with all aspects of the school. The students respect her, trust her, and genuinely like her. Parental involvement is highly encouraged and appreciated. The staff is very accessable and more than willing to accomodate any special needs of both the students and the parents. They obviously still love their jobs! Enrolling my children in this school has been one of the best decisions I have made as a parent. The field trips expose the children to not only science and history, but arts and culture. (The Detroit Institute of Arts for instance) I highly reccomend this school to any parent. I have already done so and have been thanked for it.

Love this school. I have three children at Chormann and they are doig great and learning so much. One of my children is slightly autistic and in the PPI class. This class has been a god send. The teachers are amazing and work so very hard. The principal and teachers are completely devoted to this school and the children. Parent involvement is amazing and the kids are great. A wonderful place for kids to be!

About the tests

In 2012-2013 Michigan used the Michigan Educational Assessment Program (MEAP) to test students in grades 3 through 8 in math, reading and writing; in grades 5 and 8 in science; and in grades 6 and 9 in social studies. The MEAP is a standards-based test, which measures how well students are mastering specific skills defined for each grade by the state of Michigan. The goal is for all students to score at or above the proficient level.

Beginning in the 2011-2012 school year, the Michigan State Board of Education implemented new definitions of what it means to be proficient on the MEAP test. The new standards for proficiency are higher than in previous years and the percent of students earning a proficient score is expected to be lower as a result of this change.
