Profile Completeness

BASIC

Want to improve this school’s profile? You can!

All schools on GreatSchools begin with BASIC completeness, which includes important information like contact details and test scores. It’s up to the school community to take the next steps. As a parent or community member, you can share what you know with other families by writing a review or answering a few questions about what the school offers. As a school leader, you can upload photos, describe school programs, and more with an Official school profile.

The completeness meter moves to INTERMEDIATE, then ADVANCED, and finally HONOR ROLL as you complete the following: 10 or more reviews, at least 1 photo, and 9 program questions parents find helpful.

As with any reviews, they must all be read with the idea that maybe someone has had a bad experience and unhappy. I've sent 2 students to MLHS and both have had great experiences. There is a low student to teacher ratio. I know that MLHS's students are taught at a high level and when they get to college, things are a lot easier for them. The school does offer other activities such as drama, robotics, music...not just academics and sports. MLHS is a Christian school. They live by their Savior's guidance and expect students and parents to as well: if you have an issue, go and talk privately to that person about it. If you don't, you are not following God's law and are not giving the person a fair chance to understand what they have done or heard their side of the story. Sometimes, what appears to be issues, can be a simple misunderstanding and cleared up by talking face to face. MLHS has consistently been the top 1 or 2 schools academically in our area. I recently talked to a transfer student and they love ML because the ML parents are so involved and care. It's a GREAT school, just get involved and be active in your kids life and the school.

I know that no school is perfect, but unfortunately for a Christian school ML falls short too many times. A large portion of the staff at ML come across as unkind and uncaring. If you are not involved in sports(and are good at sports) or very blessed academically, some of the teachers don't pay much attention to you. When it comes to extracurricular activities, I hope you like sports. ML offers very little opportunities outside of sports, and because sports is held so high, the music and drama programs suffer greatly. Regardless of the fact that ML is one of the best academic schools in the state, the people teaching act as though they hate their jobs. Wouldn't you think they'd be content with ANY job in the economy? Overall there is a general lack of respect between the teachers and students, both sides are at fault in this. Unfortunately I have seen students leave the school for many reason, some as follows: Teachers who are rude and disrespectful Lack of programs for their interests Being mistreated by other students And many other reasons. This is not to discourage you from sending your kids to ML, but to make you aware of the issues that seriously hurt students.

I am currently a student at ML. I switched from one of the surrounding public schools. I have to say that ML has a better atmosphere, better academics and an all together better school than any other that I have attended! I love ML! The teachers, students, even the principal! Everyone is very polite and courteous. The students are motivated in their schoolwork and extra-curricular activities. In public schools I found that if someone received a good grade in a class or even on a particular assignment, that kids thought of them as either a freak or a nerd. While at ML if you DON'T receive a good grade in a class than you are considered lazy and...well...stupid! I love Ml! It is a great school! If you are considering a school to send your children, I recommend MLHS! Sincerely -Tyler Williams

The test scores are evidence of the superior education our children receive at Michigan Lutheran High School. According to the Michigan Merit Exam scores, ML ranks no. 1 from reading, writing, math, science and social studies of the 32 schools that participated. Wow!! The faculty and staff are so supportive & helpful with the students too. My son attended ML a few years ago and the education he received there made his college experience so much easier.

In response to 'Joe Blow' a parent. I'm sorry you feel so jaded by ML. In reference to 'poor academics' the fact remains that ML consistently ranks 1st in all catagories in the annual state testing. As far as poor leadership goes - Not everyone sees things the same way. ML just like any other school is not perfect - We are all flawed humans. Maybe instead of trashing the school now you might have made a difference then by discussing your unhappiness and concern with a school official. As far as I'm concerned - I've sent 4 there. I'm extremely happy with the education they've received. When concerns have arisen for our family we've always felt free to discuss them with school staff. For anyone considering ML for their children - It's a great school - it never claimed to be a perfect one!!!!

Our children all attended MLHS with the youngest one graduating 20 years ago. We continue to support and attend activities there. I would recommend the school to anyone who wants a great education in a Christian atmosphere.

ML is a great school. I am an alumni and parent. They continue to place among the top on the MEAP / MME. The teachers take a personal involvement with the students so that they do not fall through the 'cracks'. They push the students to succeed and they do.

Poor academics my butt. ML had better test scores for the second time in a row. We beat out the public schools who have more teachers, more AP classes, and more money to buy the latest technology. It may be a small school but when you are there, you are family. Some of the teachers are not as friendly but I was able to graduate with honors from my college and I know I didn't get it from a poor education.
