My child has attended Gateway for both kindergarten and first grade. The teachers have been fabulous: very dedicated, knowledgeable, understanding and helpful. They are respectful, attentive, and help boost students' self confidence. I have been disappointed that Gateway has not focused on spelling in the lower grades. My child is a good speller, but I have had some battles when pushing accurate spelling, and have been told the teacher does not enforce that, rather tells the students to spell words as they sound and not to worry about actual spelling. Also disappointing is that my child was tested early in 1st grade to be almost mid-2nd grade level in reading. However, we were told that the teachers are not able to test the students beyond a certain 'score,' so couldn't record how advanced the student might actually be. In turn, this means the child is not getting the reading challenge he/she might need.
