Profile Completeness

INTERMEDIATE

Want to improve this school’s profile? You can!

All schools on GreatSchools begin with BASIC completeness, which includes important information like contact details and test scores. It’s up to the school community to take the next steps. As a parent or community member, you can share what you know with other families by writing a review or answering a few questions about what the school offers. As a school leader, you can upload photos, describe school programs, and more with an Official school profile.

The completeness meter moves to INTERMEDIATE, then ADVANCED, and finally HONOR ROLL as you complete the following: 10 or more reviews, at least 1 photo, and 9 program questions parents find helpful.

I am a parent. This school is decent. The after school care is bad. The helpers are disresepctful to students and parents. It is great education-wise, though.

I believe they would rank much higher if other languages than Latin were offered and they need a larger building! This is why I can only rank it at 4 stars. I love that zero tolerance for bullying is not just a statement. I have witnessed the time the staff takes to teach appropriate behavior. I love that the children are taught how to behave appropriately. I have seen some behaviorally challenged children either conform to the norms of the school, or leave altogether. I appreciate the administration staff who are great listeners and responders. They truly have the best interests of the children at heart. I appreciate the fact that they worked with me and my child individually to make sure their education was personally catered to challenge them. I love the fact that they address issues head on until a solution is reached. I love the fact that they are approachable and personable. There are OUTSTANDING teachers at every grade level. I love the commitment, dedication, and genuine love for the children. I love the close attention to the academics needs and what is necessary to move the children forward in learning process. I certainly recommend this school to and do.

Good school. I could really see the difference in my kid over the last two years, he has been at Huron Acdemy. The teachers are very good at giving feedback to parents on the child's progress.

HURON IS A WONDERFUL ACADEMIC COMMUNITY, and they continue to progress by remaining current in their continued goal of offering their students the most current curriculum approach to learning; through daily Character Education, News Paper Club, Science Olympiad, The Art Club, Sewing Club, Recycling Club, etc. Not to mention over 300 hours of free before and after care to all Huron Academy Parents. I drive 25 minutes past several schools each day and it is well worth it for the sake of my children who absolutely love school and love learning from the wonderful staff at Huron Academy!

I find it sad that a parent would resort to name-calling because they are unhappy with their child's teacher. (It makes me even more sad to think that one would feel it necessary to single out one teacher by name. I don't really think that was necessary). The teachers at Huron Academy are dedicated professionals who care immensely for their students. I have been extremely pleased with Huron Academy. The entire staff (administration, teachers, parapros, lunch, janitorial, etc.) wants the best for the students and in the time we have been at Huron, I have been able to see how hard these teachers (as well as the rest of the staff) work to create the best possible learning environment for the children. As someone else said, the wait list speaks for itself! Thanks Huron staff for all you do!

The education is outstanding! Not only are they teaching our children the basics at higher levels, they are also teaching character traits such as Honesty, Respect, Responsibility, Kindness and others. These teachings reinforce what we teach our child at home. The PTC does a great job of keeping the families and children involved with the amazing staff as a community, it takes a village and this is what we have.

Huron Academy is the best school ever because it has a dress code and smaller class sizes it makes it so much easier for our children to learn. Our school is a coummuinty, everyone is friendly and you pretty much know all the parents and students. You can help out at the school all the time and it is not frowned on. We are so happy with the school and I highly recommend this school to anyone that is not happy with their school or who are just looking for other options!

I am extremely satisfied with Merritt Academy, a true answer from God. Public and Private schools are second to what Merritt Offers. With smaller class rooms, teachers focus on students individual needs, and are able to work more of a one on one basis. Though uniforms are worn, they offer students to wear jeans once a week. Character building is taught, progress reports are sent home, and extra curricular activiites are part of the offerings at Merritt. Teachers are upbeat, truly concerned on the success of each student, and will go out of their way to see the student learns. If President Obahma reads, this, PLEASE, OFFER ACADEMIES, MORE FUNDS, to continue the excellent job they are doing, and do not compare them to public schools, when doing budget cuts. LONG LIVE MERRIT ACADEMY. Mr. & Mrs. Nepa Now, Teachers, are Terrific. They

We are in our 2nd year at H.A. and love it! They are everything that public schools are not. The focus is on academics, positive reinforcement, small class sizes, self-acceptance, responsibility, respect for others and individual attention for all and distractions and disrupptions second. In public schools, you always have to remove the distractions and improper behavior before the academics can even come into play. My 1st grader is performing at a 3rd grade level and loves school! The administration and educator are incredible, they go the extra mile, which something else that is limited in public schools, they can only do what the school system allows.

Huron is a wonderful school. Out daughter was transferred from a private school into the kindergarten. The school is wonderful with special needs children and treats everyone with respect and dignity. Their all day K doesn't waste time with naps and she is happy, learning and catching up. Latin is a wonderful addition and even though there is no gym, my daughter loves her PE class and constantly raves about it. The special Ed is second to none. Everyone works for your child to succeed. There are constant rewards for good behavior. Her teacher is wonderful and very helpful in the transfer from her previous school in the middle of the year. We love Huron!

In my opinion this school does not compare to our local public school. My children attended Huron for 5 years. The kindergarten and first grade are the best you can find, but the older grades can not compare. My chilgren were lost when they changed schools. They were behind socially and academically. Now they are were they should have been from the start. Huron needs to catch up their curriculum to be competitve with the public schools.I now feel my children are getting the well rounded education they deserve.

My son attended Huron academy for 4 years then I had to switch his school. I was very nervous at first since he had never went to public school. I was relieved after the switch. The public school has so much more to offer then Huron did. My son was behind in math and reading but with hard work and dedicated teachers he has finally caught up with the rest of the class. I never new what he was missing I am so happy with his new school.

Huron has been a blessing for us. We came from a private school that we were unhappy with and we were not sure what to expect from a 'charter school.' Let us tell you, Huron has exceeded our expectations in many areas. Do we 100% agree with everything? No. But in general, you never agree 100% with anything. All that matters is that the important issues - academics, teachers, discipline, respect - are handled the way that we would like for our children. Our children are SO HAPPY at Huron that we can't imagine going anywhere else (we wish it still went up to eighth grade). We feel that they treat all of the children equally, special needs or not. We volunteer on a regular basis and see the smiles on all of the kid's faces - the kids at Huron LOVE Huron!!!

We pulled our son out of Utica schools and enrolled him at Huron Academy. Huron Academy has provided our son with the education that he deserves. It is an outstanding school with a top notch teaching and leadership staff. It has been an absolute pleasure volunteering for the school and look forward to the coming years. Our son has told us repeatedly how much he enjoys Huron Academy and what it has to offer. The class sizes are perfect and he gets the attention he deserves. The curriculum is superb and challenges him in a positive way. I would recommend this school to anyone.

I am a parent at Huron Academy and my children have been attending the school for 3 years now and I am extremely pleased with the school. We had to transfer from a private school due to financial reasons and I feel my child's education is above what it was at the private school. They have high standards when it comes to academics. The teachers give the students many opportunities for the children work up to there potential and beyond even if the class as a whole is not ready yet. I know my children are safe, secure and being well taught by highly qualified teachers at Huron Academy.

I recently became aware of your site and wanted to let you know just what a blessing Huron Academy has been for our family. The school provides the choice for Macomb county residence that simply was not in place a decade ago. Their full day Kindergarten program is second to none; the staff really cares about each student and the school leadership is supportive and listens to parental concerns. The local school district school didn t provide us with a voice, the leadership and staff was not concerned with what concerned us as parents. Huron Academy changed all that. We feel confident each day when we drop off our child that she will receive a quality education and most importantly be safe from school bully s as Huron Academy has a well defined policy that does not permit such activity and we know that it works. Huron Academy IS A GREAT SCHOOL!

My three children attend Huron Academy. I think it is a great school. The teachers really care about the students and go the extra mile to make sure your children are doing great in school! It is great to know that Huron Academy is expanding its programs while the public schools are making so many cuts in their programs. The administration is great they listen to your concerns and do their best to solve the problems. One of the best things I love about the school is the amount you as a parent are able to be involved in you child's education. Overall I think Huron Academy is a great school for my children.

My child has thrived at Huron Academy. His teacher is wonderful. He is one of the fortunate ones that receives tutoring after school which has helped him make the honor roll. I wish there was more extracurricular activities offered as well as sports. The PTC is very active and keeps the fundraisers going. I am aware that it is the same parents over and over who I see doing lunch duty, but those parents either stay home or work non traditional hours. As one of the fathers told me, either do lunch duty or not see his child during the week. Huron Academy offers a solid academic base and I encourage anyone to consdider this school.

I have been at Huron Academy for 6 years and I love the school! Now they have K- 8 instead of K-4. If you want an excellent school, great teachers, and a fun learning environment come to this school. I have been an all A student since kindergarten and I love it!(if you have not noticed it I am a student at Huron Academy). Some kids hate the schools because we have to wear uniforms but I say its better like that. Math is really hard but not to hard for me. I am sure if you go to this school youll never leave!

My family has been at Huron Academy for five years, and I absolutely love it! I constantly talk to parents in the local elementary schools, and I believe I still have my children in the right place. The classrooms are smaller, and the reading and math programs, I believe, are better than the those in the local district schools. Despite the lack of an actual gym, I have spent a great deal of time observing the gym program and find it to be the best physical education program I have ever seen. I like the character education program and the zero tolerance policy. I love being at a school that allows as much parent involvement as you are willing to give! When you have children that get good grades, don't like to miss school, and beg you to stay there until the 8th grade, you know you have a winning school!

I enrolled my son in Huron in December of 2005 and I can not believe the dedication from the Teachers and Staff. From the moment I was completing paperwork for enrollment the staff was so nice and friedly. I have to suggest this school. Yes, it does not have a gym as one of the parents said in their review but it has everything eles, from the beginning of the day to the end, in which a parent wants to see for their child: a very organized, caring, and clean environment where the teachers go above and beyond to help the kids feel like family. There is no teasing, fighting, bullying tolerated, period: (Zero Tolerance Policy). The school communicates well with the parents. Some Teachers tutor after school until 4:30pm and there is a wonderful latchkey program that is very organized. I highly suggest Huron to every parent!

As a parent involved within Huron Academy I wish more parents would be more active. I find the majority of the parents are to busy with their jobs for their kids. It's really sad. Those are the ones that complain too about Huron. One of the best things about Huron is the parents and their involvement. The parents have the power to make the school great. Go to a PTC meeting. Oh wait there is already 5 people there why should you have to go? I also love the fact that there is no Union. The teachers are at will employees like the rest of the world. And any teacher who has been let go has been for good reason. Yes sometimes you have to question the motivation of the principal. But, it's like that in any school. Oh wait, public schools can't get rid of bad teachers after ten years.

The academic program is excellent, and my child finds the homework challenging and exciting. Parent participation is extremely important for the overall success of the children. You may hear parents complain, but most of them do not volunteer their time on a consistent basis. I am a very active parent, and I participate in all of the school activities. I volunteer as lunch helper, assist the teachers with field trips, or helping out whenever needed. Therefore, it is up to the parents to make after-school activities available. In essence, a charter school is a joint effort between parents and the staff. In order to have an after-school program parents must volunteer to coordinate the activities. Overall, the school is excellent, however parent participation needs improvement. The children wear uniforms, are extremely well mannered and well-spoken. Forget the Meap results Huron Academy is a great school.

I am torn. My son has had wonderful teachers for the past 3 years but now all of them have been 'let go'. Whose footsteps will my younger children follow in. The reason...'over qualification'. To me this says they were too educated and too expensive therefore eaisly replaced by less costly new grads. I really despise this mentality...get the cheapest not the most qualified. Despite my letters to Beacon and to Principle Filipi, I have not even received a form letter to address my concerns. Parental involvement is expected in the lunch room but not on any other level. Class blending is also a threat. IE: lower achieveing 4th graders being placed in the same class as high achieveing 3rd graders. My family will leave Huron if this happens. We miss Principal Gray.

I have had my children at Huron for the past 3 years. This year I have finally taken them out. Mrs. Fillipi is a qualified Administrator, however, her skills with children and parents are very poor. I found that when 2 of my 3 children were picked on the administration was not open to disciplining the children involved. Also, it's always the same parents volunteering. Mrs. Fillipi will not even discuss getting paid lunch moms so the teachers are very overworked since they are with the kids almost all day with one 30 min break. Other charter schools have paid lunch mom's so the teachers can get a lunch together. I would not recommend this school to anyone.

I did not like this school at all! The work was too easy for my kids, (compared to public schools) and there is no after school activities. The teachers were very good people but not strict at all . The Kids were friendly and nice to my daughter. One good thing about this school was Mr.Chap, the social studies teacher, my daughter hated that subject untill she met him.

Academically, we have been extremely satisfied for the past 3 years. Our 2nd child starts in the fall. Concerns arise with the possibility of several outstanding teachers not returning in the fall. Also, the loss of great, active families due to inconsistencies in the middle school and addition of 9th grade, causes disturbing thoughts as to the long-term plans of the principal. We hope the good experiences continue and the administration realizes that the education of our kids is what is most important.

I think that the principal and teachers are very in tune with their students. Academically speaking, my children are doing much better there than in the public schools. I would like to see afterschool activities, and I'm sure that will happen as the school continues to grow and improve. I will always recommend this school to anyone who asks. Personally, I found the principal to be very interested in helping my son. The teachers work very hard with students that are in need of extra attention, but not to the neglect of other students. I could not find anyone in the public schools to work with the children like that. And lastly, I like that there are smaller class sizes to help the children get personal attention.
