I like the school alot. The new principal is not a favorite of the students from what I learned from some of them but I think he's ok. Last year we had a teacher that didn't seem motivated to be there but we have a great teacher this year! So far so good.
My two chilren attend Schwarzkoff, they love it, I think it's a great school, the principle is very invovled, the teachers do their best, as for the office staff, well, I think they could be a little more friendly. The school work seems to be pretty decent according to what they bring home to me, so yeah, I guess the school is pretty good!
I am thrilled with all the summer academic activities on Schwarzkoff.org. My children get bored in the summer and I am always looking for things that will help them to learn more. Thank you Schwarzkoff staff for all your hard work.
Due to some low reviews on this website of Schwarzkoff, I had serious misgivings about my daughter attending Schwarzkoff. We tried to transfer her to the school she attended preschool, but due to some confusion and faulty instructions, we didn't end up getting approved. However, after just a few weeks of my daughter attending Schwarzkoff, my worries dissipated. Her kindergarten teacher is phenomenal, and my daughter has learned and grown so much in just one short year. I volunteer in the classrooms almost once a week, so I have seen it first hand. The school volunteer group is superb. The principal is very friendly and involved with his school. There is a mix of ethinicities, but all students are treated the same as far as I have seen. Also, to the reviewer who said 'Terrible school. Period.' I saw students in the computer lab doing book reports just last week!
I have had my trials and tribulation regarding the school and staff but everything has been addressed to my satisfaction. We are not an economically disadvantaged area. Unfortunately the State of Michigan is currently economically disadvantaged. We grew up in this neighborhood and we bought in the same neighborhood due to the fact that is safe, happy and very community orientated and the school system is top notch.
i love schwarzkoff my child goes there and she enjoys it evrey dayi approve of the principal mr. hardy he is the best i know!!
Terrible school. Period. I suppose if you know no better (as quite a few parents do), you might believe it to be a decent school. not the case. We'd moved down to Sterling Heights from a more affluent area 4 years ago in order to save money to build our dream home. Despite being in a more economically disadvantaged area, we found our neighborhood to be acceptable. Unfortunately that's not the case with the local elementary school. Schwarzkoff seems to pride itself in achieving the mediocre. Luckily my wife and I will be moving this summer to an area with a school district in the black (instead of in the red such as Utica schools). FYI, my child is now in 7th grade and not once in her years within Utica schools (elementary & now junior high) has she been required to write a single book report. Simply amazing.
This is my 10th year as a parent and volunteer here at Schwarzkoff. Do my children get 'special treatment?' No way! I have seen first hand that under no certain terms are they treated any differently than others. Which is great! The teachers, Mr. Hardy and all of the staff have been wonderful. When there are tuff times in our own family they are all very helpful to make sure the children can continue the day(s) in a normal routine. I feel very sorry for the parents that feel differently that things are thrown under the rug. (They are not.) For those that feel this way one question - are you part of your child/ren learning experience? Do you have open communication with the teachers, principal and other staff? I know as parents we sure do. Thank you Mr. Hardy and staff .
I have had children attending Schwarzkoff for the past 8 years. Sadly, this is our last marking period at Schwarzkoff elementary school, as we will be on to junior high. We will greatly miss the family atmosphere at this school. My children have been so fortunate to attend a school where their teachers have all gone above and beyond to ensure them the best education possible. We purchased our home with the intent of attending UCS, however, it was by luck that our homeschool was Schwarzkoff. Thank you, Schwarzkoff staff, for an amazing elementary education! Schwarzkoff truly believes it's all about the kids!
Principal Hardy sets the tone for excellence with his steadfast commitment and exemplar attitude towards the kids and their parents. The teachers are equally dedicated and approachable. Everything from the security to the cleanliness, from communication to special needs, is excellent. I could not be happier with our school!
Our family has been a part of the Schwarzkoff family for 10 years now. We have two children that are in high school now and one child still attending Schwarzkoff. Other than the large class sizes, we have been pleased with the education our children have received as well as the extracurricular activities available to them. The principal and staff are wonderful. The gym, art, music and media center teachers are fantastic. I'm always amazed at how many of the 600 students the principal actually knows by name! The parent volunteer group plans many fun events for the students and families. Our childlren always felt safe there and the older ones miss their days at Schwarzkoff and still enjoy coming back to help at special events and visit former teachers. We are very appreciative of our Blue Ribbon School. Thank you.
My daughter transfered to this school from a private school , I was skeptical about public schools, but after being in this school where the principal gets involved by visiting the classrooms, knows what is going on, he knows the kids, and administers the right discipline for the offense committed , can't ask for better management. The teachers treat their students with respect and are concerned about their learning, they communicate with the parents if the student is not doing well. The office personnel is great, always helpful. I am very pleased and thankful for a school that is managedin such a great way and it should be a standard for every school. Keep up the good work.
Schwarzkoff is a school that really carries through with the saying 'it all about the kids'.This school does everything it can to provide not only an excellent learning enviroment but an atmosphere of mentoring and family orientated events that brings all of the elements so need in its community together. Great teachers, principle and volunteer group make this a first rate school. Students who have gone on to continue their education consistently return to remain close to its enviroment.
I am very happy with our principal, office staff and teachers. My children have thrived in their education and as a parent i have chosen to become involved to volunteer in the class room, parties or events sponsored by the SVG. With all of the opportunities to become involved even it is just twice a year it helps to create a community feeling within our school. If class size is a concern - contact your UCS admin office. I have a large class size for my child and work as a team with her teacher with any concerns I may have and they are always addressed quickly. We are proud to be Cougar parents and support our school!
My child attended this school from 4th grade through 6th grade. I have NO idea how they won the Blue Ribbon (they must have paid someone off big time!)...it's truly the worst elementary I've seen. Overcrowded classes, idiot administrators, horribly incompetent teachers all made up for a miserable school experience.
My children have had over 30 kids in each of their classes for 3 years running. Coupled with the high student-teacher ratio is the very high number of student teachers that are assigned here to these same very large classes which is a recipe for disaster. Other than class size, the only real quibble I have with the school is the lack of consistent discipline from the principal. Otherwise, Schwarzkoff is a great school and my kids love going there.
This school severely fails in all areas ...The number of incidents that go unpunished are appalling! There are some great teachers but I am pulling my children out of this school.
Even though the office staff is very crabby, Schwarzkkoff was still a great learning place for our children. The male staff such as Mr. Barel were great teachers and friends. The art music programs are great- keep them! We love Schwarzkoff!
Schwarzkoff Elementary has been a terrible experience for my child and I. The Kindergarten teachers were harsh and verbally inappropriate. When issues were addressed with the principal they were dismissed as personality conflicts and disregarded. The office staff was rude and unhelpful all of the time! It is amazing that this school continues to function. I have since relocated to another school in the same district and have had a wonderful experience. The difference of night and day to Schwarzkoff. So, my advice, as a parent and teacher myself, I would reconsider attending Schwarzkoff and look for a better school in the same district. There are many great schools out there.
I totally disagree with the comment about children who's parents volunteer in the classroom get preferential treatment. I spend alot of time in the classrooms (not because I have to but I WANT to!) and have never noticed my children getting any special treatment. The only advantage to me being in the class is that I have more contact with the teacher. Also, one of my children is a special needs child and I am very pleased with the extra help she gets every day.
