Oakbrook Elementary School

This school is very good. My son is happy attending in Mandarin program. I'm glad that he have chance learn other language. I think the teachers have very good qualifications and great contact with kids.

Excellent Principal, very understanding and professional. The teachers in the mandarin program are hand picked and it shows. The teachers in the regular program are a mixed bag. If your kids are going to this school, make sure they are in the mandarin program, excellent teachers.

The principal and all the staff are great. I would reccomend this school to anyone. I just recently moved before the school year and enrolled in the school of choice to keep my student here.

this school is simply amazing. ive had such luck with the teachers and you dont need luck to be good with them. theyre all very nice and they help each and every student.

My children are bilingual and this school does not offer any real solution to helping them learn. What can be solve by holding a child back a grade. They need a bilingual teacher to help the students with what it is that they don't understand. I do spend time with my children and teach them as much as I can but it is so overwhelming that i feel why do I need to send them to school if I have to teach them everything so when they go to school they can do the school work the teacher gives them. If your child is fluent in english and smart then yes this is a good school. And for the record my child isn't the only or the first bilingual student that is transfering out of this school.

I am a school of choice parent and I feel very blessed that I am able to have my children go to such a wonderful school. The teachers and staff are wonderful. I feel that the parent participation is very important and hope that in the years to come we are lucky enough to have parents involved as much as they are now.

I am very happy with my children's experience at Oakbrook because bottom line is their education. Awesome teachers and support staff. We are fortunate to have such a wonderful principle, Mr Shepard. He always has a open door for parents,who want to talk. My boys are better people for attending Oakbrook.

Oakbrook is a school of choice for us and we have been extremely satisfied. My son attends Mrs. Herppich's K class and having her for a teacher has far reached my expections. She is so wonderful and I couldn't have asked for a better role model. The K classes have high school student helpers that work so well with the kids. I have noticed the more you get involved, the more you know what's going on and the more people you meet. Thanks!

Oakbrook is a wonderful school. All of the teachers are excellent. The PTO is very involved with the school and raises a lot of money to make it possible to support many school activities and fieldtrips. They have free events like the Fall Festival and the Winter Wonderland. As for the people who have complaints, they should get involved with the PTO and help improve the school instead of sitting around doing nothing and complaining.

I was surprised to read anything negative about this school. Having moved several times due to my husbands job I have experience with many elementary schools. Oakbrook is hands down the best. I too thought that the PTO was clicky until I started going to the meetings. With 200 families enrolled only an average of 15 parents attend the meetings and organize the events. These parents become close because they are together.

Fund raising in the school is way over the top. This was my first year at the school and it seems like they were constantly selling things. All of the events that the school holds cost the parents money including their end of the year celebration which was really just a carnival although it wasn't advertised that and the prices were ridiculous. I was shocked to see how much money everything cost at the celebration including the games. It seems to me that they should be providing some free events throughout the year instead of draining us all dry. Not everyone can afford that kind of money. PTO should be spending some of the money instead of sitting it in an account. I do like the school overall and the teachers have been good so far. Would like to see more benefit for all the hard work we do to raise$

Agree with an earlier review of Family Tree click and spilling into classroom. Big clicks when my child was in school. Special requests for the good teachers honored by principal and those not in click told no requesting teachers. Discussions with principal atrocious.

Both of my children have attended Oakbrook since they were 3 yrs old. Our experience has been wonderful and rewarding. The school offers many clubs such as science olympiad, social studies olympiad, math club, scouts, service squad etc. They encourage parent involvment and offer their pto meetings in the evenings so all parents can attend. The staff have always been willing to work with me and my children in areas of concern and I found most teachers go out of their way to make sure help is given when needed even on their own time before and after school. A learning center and math tutor is available and the school has nursery school through 6th grade for 9 years of a quality education. The PTO offers many family events including a year end fair, Octoberfest, a winter wonderland and also special events for rewarding the children on social sucess.

Both of my children attend this school, and I have to say that for a working mother they dont support that life style at all. If you cant be at that school to help out at least 90% of the time your a bad parent. They dont offer any after school homework clubs or reading groups. They expect our children to just be smart and not to have problems. If they do there ADD or ADHD and need to be put on meds. The principle is very nice dont have anything good to say about the teachers okay maybe one 'lazy'. I apologize if this affends anyone.

Mrs. White Knight the principal is awesome. She knows almost all of the parents and toddeler siblings of the enrolled children. Most of the teachers I have really liked. The #1 worst thing about this school is that the parking lot is way too small for the amount of traffic before and after school.

The Principal is the best; very involved. The teachers are great. I am amazed about how much my children have learned in Kindergarten and first grade.

The administration, teachers, and support staff are professional and caring. I have felt supported in my goals for my children. Art, music, and foreign language programs begin in Kindgergarten. The art program in particular is impressive. My kids are learning so much, and loving it!

There are 400 students in the school and fewer than twenty people including teachers, parents, and officers attend the PTO meetings each month. Very few clubs or organizations are available to the students and no sports are offered- even for the upper elementary. The support staff-speech pathologist and resource room teacher are kind and knowledgeable. The parking lot is a complete mess. There are too few spots and no solution in sight. The school is too quiet. In the four years my child has attended this school, I have never heard laughter from the hallways (which you should be able to do since it is still an 'open' school.)
