My son is a 4.0 student. I find some (english, history) teachers just don't care. Good principal, good band director, good counseling staff, lots of class choices. He's getting a good education & is happy.
As one of the top schools in the region my years in Sterling Height High was filled with alot of good friends and has helped me out after high school. I feel that every asset we give to schools like Sterling Heights High Benefit the community at large.
my son loves school again! He hated middle school, but is really enjoying high school and is doing well.
My son attends SHHS. School is what you make of it. He has decided to get involved in the extra-cirricular activities, and has decided that education is important. There are kids at the school that have no interest in education. For those children, they will get out of it as much as they put into it. If they put effort into it, the staff will bend over backwards to help them succeed.
I Graduated from Sterling Heights High School in 2005 and i can't tell you how much i miss attending. The educatation i recieved was not book smarts it was LIFE SKILLS!!! The classes other than english, math etx. that a student took was up to them they allow you to take courses that appeal to you and your future plans. They push skills like presentation, communication, ability to adjust to growing technology. At the end of my carrer at Sterling Heights High School i was at a 3.7 GPA and headed to Oakland University well perpared compared to fellow students attending. I am planning to become active with the school even though i am no longer a student to show my support to the school that done so much for me. Also THE FAMILY i was a part of will stick forever!
My child got an excellent education in this school. Most teachers were very caring and prepared my daughter for the Big 10 college that she attends now.
I was really frustrated with my daughters experience at SHHS. It is a very ethnically-segregated school. It shouldn't matter what race you are- be proud of who you are...but don't judge others by it. We transferred her out of SHHS at the end of the semester.
I agree, this school has made my two boys into young men prepared for college. I appreciate that this is a school of choice as well. Though residing in the Utica School district my kids chose on their own to attend Sterling in the Warren Consolidated system for their activities and curriculum.
Sterling Heights High School is a school unlike others. It currently has a principal whose goal is to raise the bar academically as well as the image of the school. The teachers are unlike any staff you will ever see... they are 100% committed to student achievement. As for safety, this school was the first school in the district to enforce mandatory ID tags on students to prevent others from getting into the school undetected. Dances are strictly chaperoned and guests of students are screened. As for college prep, the school offers many college prep classes as well as a counseling staff who informs students about scholarships and visiting colleges who come to speak with the students. To the parent who posted on May 30- please tell your daughter to look around the building, listen to announcements, or read the school newspaper for the numerous signs regarding upcoming college visitations
My daughter attended SHHS all 4 of her H.S. years. She's in the class of 2007. She is one of the few African Americans there and overall has been well received. There has been a few problems over the years with some teachers and administrators treating her as fairly as the others but everything worked out. I was surprised that she did not receive any college counseling nor scholarship assistance. She will be attending college in the fall. I think the diversity at SHHS was good for her. Most teachers were wonderful and a few were quite inspiring.
sterling heights high school is a school that does not challenge students at all. This school definetely needs to step it up. Why do you think the school test scores are so low? I graduated from this school thanking God I would never see this school again. The teachers are not pushing the students enough. I would not recommend any child to go to this school...only if you want your child's future to go down the drain. I hated my education at this school...hated it...and I was a 4.0 student who hated coming to school each day.
I have had my eldest attend SHHS for all four years of their education. I feel that many of the teaching staff are excellent teachers and role models, but the administrative staff chooses to make decisions that takes the responsibilities out of the teachers' experienced hands, and into specialized disipline centers. Such bureaucratization can not bode well for the future student population.
The previous comment is quite untrue. The head principal at Sterling makes rash decisions that are not in the best interest of students and education, but rather in opposition to them. Though the administration might not be the best though, the teachers at Sterling are excellent. Furthermore, the extracurricular activities at the school top notch, and include excellent coaches and up-to-date facilities.
On a whole other level the atmosphere at SHHS is unlike many others. The overall ethnic diversity at SHHS makes the school unique in a way that many others can not claim. The staff has a special bond with this type atmosphere. As a student who has attended another high school in the district, it is safe to say SHHS is one of the more less stressfull environments for high schoolers to attend. Do not let it's reputation get in the way, Sterling Heights High School is a place for students to get grow up in a safe, REAL environment.
Sterling Heights High School has a very diverse multi-national population. The Principal does an excellent job in ensuring the safety at the school and is able to contain the fighting. The teachers are great, very supportive of the students. Sterling Heights High School usually places well in all sports, the overall emphasis is on academics but the individual involved in the sports strive for excellence. While the entire Warren Consolidated Schools teach the same curriculum, Sterling Heights High focuses on preparing the student for college not MEAP tests.
