Grandparent of a 3rd grade boy. My grandson started school in a parochial school, K & 1. When he moved to Stockbridge (with his mother), we were not certain if the level of education would continue in the public school. He entered Smith already performing well in math, reading, science, and his favorite, history. After a year and 1 marking period, we are very happy that we were guided to Smith for his education. He has maintained a very high level of performance and maybe even exceeded where he would be had he remained in the parochial school. This was not the case when our daughters moved from the parochial school to a different public school system. We are very happy and excited for our son/grandson and the future prospects he has for exceeding academically.
Teachers are great but the rules they have are making a bunch of wusses out of our children! Rules that I know of 1. NO RUNNING NEAR PLAY EQIUP.(SOMEONE MIGHT GET HURT OHHHH NOOO) 2. NO SCARY COSTUMES for halloween. A kid might get scared. 3. CANT POINT YOUR FINGER LIKE A GUN. A KID MIGHT THINK ITS A GUN I think they just want our kids to be robots with no personalities. Oh and watch out cus they'll teach your kids about death in 1st grade without permission. Schools these days want to much control over our children and they've taken political correctness to another level. Thank god im not the only parent that thinks this i just wish other parents would be more open with it
I am pleased with this school. All of my children have attended and each year the staff gets better, the curriculum stronger and having an updated building is really great. It has a rock wall as part of its fitness class which is great.
