I've been very disappointed with the HS. While the counselors are pleasant enough, they are definitely over worked and can't give the students the individual attention they deserve/require. The emphasis appears to be on HS graduation, not college prep. As a parent you absolutely need to fill in the gaps and be proactive with course selections and college test requirements. If you don't stay on top of things, you'll find your child ill prepared when competing against others for college acceptance.

Enough is enough....as a parent of two children who attended and graduated, let me tell you how I saw it. Neither of my sons were prepared for college, yet their high school GPAs were greater than 3.6. A large percentage of the staff is rude and self-centered. The good old boys club still exists today. Also note that the high ratings are those of former students...what do the parents really think.....

Everyone on the staff wanted to maintain a seven period day. These people did all that they could to maintain the schedule including renegotiating existing contracts. Anyone that states otherwise is not presenting facts. Given the resources that it has to work with, it's amazing that this school manages to be consistenly rated by the state at such a high level which by the way, was given the highest score in Northeast Michigan of all the schools east of I-75 in Northern Lower Michigan.

it is an unfair statement to say the teachers put themselves ahead of the kids. the teachers wanted and did everything they could to maintain the seven period day. it was jerry youngs, the school superintendant, and the majority of the school board (although not all of it) that wanted and got the 6 period day. it's not fair to the teachers to say what was said on here. the teachers were still fighting for the seven period day at the last school board meeting before school started; were you? if you're going to criticize, have your facts correct.
