We are just completing our first year here at Long Lake Elementary. We have had happiness and success and have no intention of moving our children from this school.

I love Long Lake because we have the most collaborative teachers and parents that are so supportive in their childrens education. Long Lake participates in Harvard Project Zero and are building a community of deep thinkers.

Long Lake EL. is the best! It has it all: friendly families, respectful kids, involved parents, teachers who listen to the kids and each other, staff that is kind and courteous and a PTO that rocks!

Long Lake is a fabulous school that supports our children and has an extreme amount of parent participation which I feel is hard to find in this day and age.

I believe that the success of a school is greatly based on parent involvement. All parents are encouraged to get involved at Long Lake school. This was our first year at the school and it couldn't have gone any better. My daughter is in the first grade and her teacher has gone above and beyond the call of duty. She encourages the kids to do their best in all there work, and make sure that all the kids are where they need to be academically. The communication between the school and parents is outstanding. The PTO, staff and the parents do a wonderful job of making each student experience the best it can be. The teachers and office gals are some of the most caring and patient people I have met in the school system.

The principal at Long Lake is not very involved at all. She does not return phone calls, and seems very disinterested. Parental involvement is supposedly very important, yet there are several teachers who do not want parents around, and they make that fact very clear!!! Medical issues are not taken seriously, and meds not well monitored. Playground is poorly staffed-sometimes no adults there at all.

I have had four children go through Long Lake Elementary and we have found it to be a wonderful experience with knowledgable and caring staff. I would highly recommend this school to any family.

While there is only a very few good teachers left at Long Lake, I would not recommend this school to any parent. The principal has very bad administor skills and is never around. She skates around the issues at hand and never returns phone calls in a timly manner. Safety is an issue at this school. Bullies are a MAJOR problem at this school.

About the tests

In 2012-2013 Michigan used the Michigan Educational Assessment Program (MEAP) to test students in grades 3 through 8 in math, reading and writing; in grades 5 and 8 in science; and in grades 6 and 9 in social studies. The MEAP is a standards-based test, which measures how well students are mastering specific skills defined for each grade by the state of Michigan. The goal is for all students to score at or above the proficient level.

Beginning in the 2011-2012 school year, the Michigan State Board of Education implemented new definitions of what it means to be proficient on the MEAP test. The new standards for proficiency are higher than in previous years and the percent of students earning a proficient score is expected to be lower as a result of this change.
