I would also have to say that this school is good academically. However, we have had more negative occurrences with the staff rather than positive. Proper policies and procedures to any situation are non existent. I would also agree that their is not enough adult supervision and kids become subject to being bullied. I was shocked considering they are suppose to have a zero tolerance for bullying. After making it known to my child's teacher and principal that my child was being bullied, no action was taken. Very disappointing.

Hedke is a pretty awesome school.I have a third grader and a kindergartner going there. The kindergarten teacher Mrs Pilgrim is the BEST! Mr Porecca is very helpful and genuinely cares about the kids.My daughter was having some issues in kindergarten and they let her call home to calm her which I thought was really nice.I also however did have some issues with bullying by a specific student but after a while was semi resolved.I guess there's only so much the staff can do though. It takes help from home too.So overall a wonderful school.

This school is pretty good academically but there isn't enough adult supervision and kids end up being bullied. There aren't bus aids so the kids are loud on the bus and teasing does occur. Even further when these things are brought up to the principal he doesn't show much concern and doesn't have a proper and effective system set up to problem solve conflicts among the students. They are left with a ...............lot of room to resolve conflicts however they see fit which leads to bullying and violence. I would not recomend

I can't say enough about the caring staff at this school. The principal is the best I have ever encountered. Rain, shine, or snow that man stands outside the front door every morning and afternoon to make sure all students get where they are going and are not left without an adult. The staff and teachers at each grade level are highly focused and caring of all situations. My entire family attended parochial schools and I had not been involved with public schools. This particular school should be modeled everywhere !!!!

I definitely love the school from the principal, to all of my son's teachers, the office staff, volunteers and everyone who makes this such a great place. My 4th grader has been here since K and just loves school thanks to everyone there. People who work with our children should be those who are dedicated and actually want to teach or work with kids. I've had a few bad teachers in my past and know what a difference these teachers can make!

My daughter currently attends Hedke and she truly enjoys going everyday. I have had an opportunity to assist in the classroom and the teacher/student interaction is wonderful. All of the staff that I have encountered are great - I am very happy wiht this school and would recommend it to anyone.

Best school in Trenton. I went to Hedke K-6th grade and now my children are attending. The entire staff is extremely nice and a well knit group.

From the Teachers to the Principal to the Staff that help out..........you cant put in to words how awesome they really are! They really care about each and every child there!

I have the opportunity to be in all of the elementary schools in Trenton. However, I must say that in every aspect, Hedke 'has the edge'! There is a different spirit about the school. I truly enjoy watching the children and the teachers interacting. They seem to enjoy each other and respect each other at the same time. I am very troubled that the bond didn't pass. I believe that too many people in this city choose not to deal with reality! That is a very unfortunate thing for all of our children at this time. I only can pray that things will change, and very soon. These kids are our future! Let's wake up Trenton! We need to take a stand.

About the tests

In 2013-2014 Michigan used the Michigan Educational Assessment Program (MEAP) to test students in grades 3 through 8 in math, reading and writing; in grades 5 and 8 in science; and in grades 6 and 9 in social studies. Currently, GreatSchools' ratings reflect 2013 MEAP results; ratings will be updated after 2014 Michigan Merit Examination (MME) results are released. The MEAP is a standards-based test, which measures how well students are mastering specific skills defined for each grade by the state of Michigan. The goal is for all students to score at or above the proficient level.

Beginning in the 2011-2012 school year, the Michigan State Board of Education implemented new definitions of what it means to be proficient on the MEAP test. In addition, they have recalculated past years' results using these new standards for proficiency, making the above year-over-year results comparable.

What is the GreatSchools Rating?

The GreatSchools rating is a simple tool for parents to compare schools based on test scores, student academic growth, and college readiness. It compares schools across the state, where the highest rated schools in the state are designated as “Above Average” and the lowest “Below Average.” It is designed to be a starting point to help parents make baseline comparisons. We always advise parents to visit the school and consider other information on school performance and programs, as well as consider their child's and family's needs as part of the school selection process.
