Sending your children to Arenac Eastern is like sending them to an expensive private school. They get very personalized attention. My children are getting excellent grades at college, so I feel that they were well prepared academically.

As a Arenac Eastern Alumni I must stand strong for our school. AE is a small school with excellent staff! The class sizes are perfect I loved that I had hands on time with my teachers because I needed it! The school does need repairs and some updates on things but overall I believe that this school deserves a lot higher rating! I am grateful for being able to attend such a small school and when my child is old enough to attend school I only wish she goes to a school that is so hands on and keeps her in line like AE did for me! There are less problems at AE with clicks and student conduct and many other things! Keep up the great work staff!

This school is under funded and people in the area need to know it. There are a lot of GREAT teachers and this school could do a lot more with funding for technology and textbooks

I think the quality of academic programs should be given a '10' for such a small school. The teachers and staff are extremely caring, helpful, and responsible. I am proud to be a former student, as well as all three of my college-age children.

Kevin, I am an Arenac Eastern graduate and a college student. The education that Arenac Eastern provided has NEVER let me down. I have an excellent grade point at college. In classes it has often been apparent that Arenac Eastern teachers prepared me for higher learning much better than some of the students coming from larger districts. Always remember that bigger is not necessarily better. Stay in class and work on your spelling and punctuation.

Arenac Eastern is an Okay school, that's the best rating one can give it. The teachers are terrible, and grade more personaly then work and quality of work. The school is pretty battered, though it may have changed abit in the past two years I haven't been there. The sports programs are terrible, AE has extremely old equipment and they almost never win games. The safety and discipline was decent, and since it was an extremely small school, Malicious things were stopped easliey. Overall is an okay school. A few faults, but not bad.

About the tests

In 2013-2014 Michigan used the Michigan Educational Assessment Program (MEAP) to test students in grades 3 through 8 in math, reading and writing; in grades 5 and 8 in science; and in grades 6 and 9 in social studies. Currently, GreatSchools' ratings reflect 2013 MEAP results; ratings will be updated after 2014 Michigan Merit Examination (MME) results are released. The MEAP is a standards-based test, which measures how well students are mastering specific skills defined for each grade by the state of Michigan. The goal is for all students to score at or above the proficient level.

Beginning in the 2011-2012 school year, the Michigan State Board of Education implemented new definitions of what it means to be proficient on the MEAP test. In addition, they have recalculated past years' results using these new standards for proficiency, making the above year-over-year results comparable.

About the tests

In 2012-2013 Michigan used the Michigan Merit Examination (MME) to assess students in grade 11 in reading, writing, math, science and social studies. The MME is a standards-based test, which measures how well students are mastering specific skills defined for each grade by the state of Michigan. The goal is for all students to score at or above the state standard.

Beginning in the 2011-2012 school year, the Michigan State Board of Education implemented new definitions of what it means to be proficient on the MME test. In addition, they have recalculated past years' results using these new standards for proficiency, making the above year-over-year results comparable.

What is the GreatSchools Rating?

The GreatSchools rating is a simple tool for parents to compare schools based on test scores, student academic growth, and college readiness. It compares schools across the state, where the highest rated schools in the state are designated as “Above Average” and the lowest “Below Average.” It is designed to be a starting point to help parents make baseline comparisons. We always advise parents to visit the school and consider other information on school performance and programs, as well as consider their child's and family's needs as part of the school selection process.

1 Test scores are based on 2012-13 MEAP results from the state of Michigan.

2 This rating is based on 2012-13 net growth (significant improvement/improvement - significant decrease/decrease) according to Performance Level Changes from the state of Michigan.

3 This rating is based on composite ACT scores from 2012-13 and four-year adjusted graduation rates from 2011-12. ACT participation represents the percentage of 11th graders taking the ACT. Because the ACT is mandated in Michigan high schools, ACT participation is NOT included in the GreatSchools rating.
