The teachers at Central School are mostly outstanding. The leadership lacks positive administration style and is often antagonistic to parents and teachrs alike. However, the staff is cohesive and work well with each other. There are many opportunities for children to receive the help they need in order to be happy productive students.
I believe that Vassar School District has it's ups and downs. I have seen improvements since I've graduated. Now both my kids attend there, and I am involved in their educational decisions as well as the academic interests. Some of their teachers have rushed at the end of the year to meet their agendas, which has hurt the students. Over all I'm glad that they attend Vassar Public Schools. Keep up the great job!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I have had my children in 3 other schools and would have to say I am most disappointed in Central Elm. When we first arrived my special needs child was getting beat-up by other students and we weren't even allowed a conference with the other parties parents, just a comment from the principle ' I assure you it has been taken care of, although I am not at liberty to tell you how the child was disciplined', well after 3 more incidents with the same child assaulting my son I finally had to take matters into my own hands and go to the higher ups* It is for the most part an EXTREMELY unsafe environment, especially for children who have special needs, and I would agree that the organization system in place is ridiculous! I never know what my children are supposed to be doing!
Central schools are poorly organized. not all of the teachers are high quality. central does not have very high standards, and has poor safety. my child has experienced 4 bomb threats within not even two years.
Central School is a wonderful place! The academic programs and the teachers are top-notch. The newletters keep parents informed on upcoming events and activities. The atmosphere is welcoming and you are treated as part of the family. I've seen the school pull together to adopt needy families for Christmas, provide food for the food pantry, send money to the tsunami victims, and send care packages to military troops. Reading is valued and celebrated every year at the Accelerated Reader fun day. Staff members sing, dance, and play instruments at a kick-off assembly followed by a terrific day of activities and games for the kids. Rock and Read is another great time for parents and students to read and dance the night away. Central is a special place where kids are valued. I wouldn't send my children anywhere else!
I agree with the comment about lack of organization and communication. They do not do a very good job of keeping parents informed about upcoming events and things of that nature. Most of the staff, however, are wonderful, caring educators looking out for the best interests of the children they are responsible for.
This school provides many valuable experiences as well as a high quality education to each student.
Being involved with three different elementary schools since my child began attending school, I find Central to be an over-all good school but has a serious lack of organization in regards to activities that should involve parental input. Communication is poor there and often leads to systemic breakdowns in the way extracurricular activities should function, for example.
this school is great its the best school around!
