Townsend North School

The teachers are very nice. The main thing this school is lacking is quality academic programs for those students who are above grade level. The school gives all focus to the Title I students, but does not allow the students at higher achievement levels the ability to challenge themselves. If you as a parent want your child to be challenged and learn new things, you will need to do a lot of at home work. I don't believe the school system provides enough positive rewards to the children and focuses more on the negative behavior. Children really do need a positive learning environment in order to achieve their potential.

I am a parent at Townsend North Elementary. I agree with the statement that there is some tension among the staff but there are a lot of stressful changes all over in education today. I think the staff is feeling the strain of these changes and are trying to adjust to them as best they can. As far as parent involvement, I feel the parent group practically begs for volunteers and is greatly lacking in that area. There are a lot of afterschool activities and everything is family oriented. The school has some security issues but is working on making it a more secure building. The community does not seem to like these changes (they want to just wander in unchecked) and that makes it difficult for the administration. This is a good school overall and could always use support from parents and community members alike!

I am a parent of a Kindergartener at Townsend north. Overall the school is improving. There seems to be some tension among the staff within the building. This seems to bring the overall atmosphere of the building down quite a bit. There are a couple exceptional teachers in each grade but there are more that almost need to be avioded and overall they have been against parent referrals for teachers. This year they are making a new policy to try to aviod parent referrals all together. Probably due to the hihg number of them because of the quality teacher issue. They also seem to have parent involvement but they hand pick who they would like to be involved?? I think the B rating in generous.

This school is awesome. From the lunch ladies to the principal, everyone is so caring and giving. Everyone knows everyone's name. It gives the little ones a sense of security starting out in academics in this school.
