Profile Completeness

ADVANCED

Want to improve this school’s profile? You can!

All schools on GreatSchools begin with BASIC completeness, which includes important information like contact details and test scores. It’s up to the school community to take the next steps. As a parent or community member, you can share what you know with other families by writing a review or answering a few questions about what the school offers. As a school leader, you can upload photos, describe school programs, and more with an Official school profile.

The completeness meter moves to INTERMEDIATE, then ADVANCED, and finally HONOR ROLL as you complete the following: 10 or more reviews, at least 1 photo, and 9 program questions parents find helpful.

This school forms friendships and contacts that will last a lifetime. A great school where your children will work hard in a catholic community. The multi-cultural environment is exceptional in this small school and learning a second language from day 1 is a bonus. The parents and families are very involved and really care. I highly recommend this exceptional school.

The children thrive at this school. I would be reluctant to send my child to other schools in this area. I know most of the parents by sight and it is an excellent learning environment! The teachers are incredible and care about challenging the kids with making learning fun. The principal needs to be positive, a leader, and work more with the parents and community.

We have been at IC for several years now and it is a great school. The parents and PTO is very involved and make a difference and really want to help the children. The small class size is wonderful! Would only change the principal.

I grew up in the public schools, so it was difficult to send my children somewhere and pay for school. I love the multicultural Ukrainian and American integrated environment and believe that is extremely important for my children to learn and appreciate this. In our electronic age and world without borders, this school teaches traditional values (and cursive - so many schools don't teach this anymore!), with some electronics. The electronics can always improve as are always changing, but right now the school tries to provide a good balance between technology and values. I would recommend this school to parents in the area.

When we came to the United States, it was our dream to preserve our Ukrainian heritage while providing our children with the best education available. Without IC Schools, we would never have achieved our dream.

Largest Class size is 24 :-) The priests, principal and teachers work hard to assure the children have a safe and highly motivating environment. It's understood that this is a Ukrainian Catholic school, and as such Ukrainian is a required 2nd language class. This is a great thing in today's diverse economy. Yet this school could be helped /grow if the administration /board would be more open to better balancing UK vs/ English activities such as school concerts, etc

I grew up at public schools and couldn't imagine paying for my kids to go to school. But it's the best thing I could have done. My daughter loves her school...she has wonderful friends who share the same morals and values, and she has a very enhanced curriculum t hat includes Ukrainian and Religion classes. I know all the parents by name and enjoy various events throughout the year including a Halloween party and father/daughter dance. Everyone of my daughters teachers have been wonderful. I couldn't ask for a better atmosphere for my daughter. My only wish would be for the High School to reopen. I hate the idea of moving my child away from IC after 8th grade.

My parents, cousins, aunts, uncles, and friends attended this outstanding private school, including myself. I am proud to say that history is repeating itself, and now my children attend. I couldn't be more proud of this fact. IC molded me into the person that I am today. I always came home with homework and positive challenges, and I participated in sports. It made me the hard-working and driven individual that I am today. Thank you to my second family! Be true to your school!

Catholic, private school with focus on academics, and learning Ukrainian. Small class ratio allows focus and mastering of core skills. Added bonus students wear uniforms.

A great school that not only teaches academics, but teaches responsibility, community service, and good citizenship. How many other schools do that these days?

We have only been at IC for 3 years however we feel IC is an amazing school. Our children have exceled academically and are reading two grades above their grade level. It has been an awesome experience for both our children and for us. We are extremely satisfied with the staff and feel very fortunate to have found IC!

Immaculate Conception is a family, not just a school. My kids receive an excellent education in a warm and loving atmosphere where I know there are save and cared for. They are challenged not only to be great students, but better people. Teachers in every grade get to know all the kids and their parents. Parents are friendly to new families and quick to lend a hand with carpooling or study groups. Volunteering is highly encouraged both by teachers and the administration. You don't feel left in the dark about your child's progress or the status of school happenings. Even if you aren't Catholic, the school has so much to offer families who feel their students aren't getting the individualized attention they need or who feel, as parents, they aren't being listened to or don't have opportunities to share their talents. Teachers at IC spend their time TEACHING not doing administrative tasks or preparing for the next big test or count. It's all about the kids and their education here.

Speaking as a grandmother of a student, I give the school 5 stars. In my opinion the students are doing work higher than there grade level. The school also encourages students to do extra curicular activities that make a well rounded child. AAA+++

An excellent opportunity for a great education is here at this school. With strong community ties and parents who really care, yo u can't get better then this academically focused school. You don't have to be Ukrainian to fit in. Many different nationalities here all working together! Small classes make for an great learning environment!

Wow - not sure why there are negative reviews here. Take them with a grain of salt, as they are old. Have been involved with this school for several years now and my children are getting a great education.

My daughter went to Immaculate Conception Ukrainian Schools from Kindergarten through eighth grade. She was WELL prepared to enter high school, is currently taking 3 honors classes, and one class at Macomb Community College, as a dual enrollment course. She maintains an A-B average. The school is a wonderful place for young people to grow and learn not how to just get by, but to strive to excel. The staff and teachers care about the children. We are not Ukrainian, but I felt that the opportunity to learn any foreign language, starting in Kindergarten was an opportunity to jump at. The school initiated an age 3-4 pre-school about 4 years ago, in addition to the K-8. Enrollment has been increasing in the last few years. They currently have over 200 students. The alumni love and support their school, many of the parents are alumni. The school is alive and growing. Keep up the good work, IC. Go Bengals! This is current information as of April, 2013.

Now I only have 2 kids at IC, one has entered an elite high school on a stipend due to high scores on the high school entrance exam. i am convinced that IC has prepared him academically to excel - he is in all honors (Advanced Placement) classes. My other kids are also doing well as a result of the outstanding teachers at IC. The Preschool program has been great at preparing for my youngest one for kindergarten. I'm really glad that we chose IC and pray that they reopen the high school soon.

We are not Ukrainian, but moved to IC from another local Catholic School. My son went to IC for 7 years, had a tough time with academics. We thought it was the teachers and 'old school' teaching methods. We left IC and transferred to a charter school. My son stood out academically and made the honor roll in his first semester! I wish that he did that well at IC, but that convinced me that the consistent high standards prepared him to excel in public schools. We now wish that we never left IC and the solid relationships of the community. My sons still plays sports with his former classmates, and misses the close-knit feel of the school.

Immaculate Conception is, by far, the best quality school in town. My son attended another school before IC for two years. I volunteered all the time and NEVER met another parent -- even if they were sitting right next to me. In my first 10 minutes at IC, I met 50 new people! They are very warm and welcoming. We are not Ukrainian, nor do we belong to either of the sponsoring parishes, but we have been welcomed with open arms as a family. My son receives a top-notch education in a safe and warm environment with a great student-teacher ratio. I wouldn't think of sending my children anywhere else.

I would like to say I.C is changing for the better. I do know they are trying. However, they are not there yet. It used to be a great school. Then something happened. And now they are low on funds. It's hard to see if there's a light at the end of the tunnel or if their efforts to turn things around is a little too little & a little too late. They have potential. Just not sure they can live up to that potential. I haven't seen it yet.

This is foremost a Ukranian then Catholic school. I found only one other parent who was not ukranian. These people have their own culture, attend church, and events together and we felt very uch the outsiders. My son especially felt the other children were very 'clichish' and teased him speaking in Ukranian. It is very hard to fit into their tight little community!

I have been extremely pleased with the quality of education which my children are getting from the IC Grade School. In addition to the reading, writing and arithmetic which is all top notch, they are learning respect, cultural pride and a sense of worth. Yes, perhaps other schools can offer more in after school activity but as a parent I am more concerned about what happens during the hours school is actually in session. The small class sizes and personal attention they get enables my children to ask questions and instills a craving to learn more. To me, this is the indication that there is something special about IC that is hard to find elsewhere these days. ICs biggest down fall is it doesn't market what it has to offer well but this can be corrected.

The quality of I.C. is a little different than it was twenty years ago. The loyalty of a select few teachers is appreciated, but it isn't enough for the students to establish the same connection that other students could at larger schools. The extracurricular activities at I.C. are two stones thrown short of being labeled a 'joke'. The parental involvement with I.C. is strong, but do students consider that a positive thing? I.C. is a good anti-drug, but it won't shelter your children forever.

Immaculate Conception is a college-prep school with a rigorous academic program. It is the closest thing to a 'custom' education you can get. Educators are very willing to work with parents and students. There are a limited amount of extracurricular activities that do not take the place of academics, but allow students to explore their interests. I would not think of sending my children anywhere else. Everyone here is like family.

IC is a small school that emphasizes discipline, respect and a good work ethic. Small school size focuses on academics versus extra-curricular activities. Academics are strong, especially the English curriculum. Student teacher ratio allows for more educator-student attention, especially for students who need it. Graduates are well prepared for college. IC fosters a caring, long-lasting, real friendships between students and parents alike.
