We moved into and lived in West Blomfield for almost 10 years for a particular reason, that was for our 2 kids to attend and graduated from West Bloomfield High School. Both kids went on to a great Ive League university after graduation. During those years, we interacted extensively with their teachers and principles. In our humble views, WBHS offers a unique and highly challenged learning and extracurriculum environment to our kids. We believe that WBHS is one of best high schools in Oakland County of Michigan, and we highly recommend it to other parents who want an excellent education for their kids.
We are the parents of three students- one who has previously attended WBHS, and two current students. From our former student, who is an "average to below average" student, we know that staff and teachers are outstanding, and students leave this institution well prepared. From our current students, we know that the school is disciplined and well-run, culturally diverse and tolerant, and responsive to parent inquiries. Administration, especially the principal and athletic director, are very effective and in touch with students and building culture. What a great school!
We have two students who attend WBHS. Our experiences have been indicative of those in the real world...1) Teachers who underestimated our son due to his outward appearance who quickly acknowledged his drive and determination to succeed, 2) Administration/staff who addresses parents' concerns in a timely manner, 3) A curriculum that is challenging and full of varied courses in many disciplines (As an educator, this was of utmost importance to me), and 4) A student population that is culturally diverse. The teaching staff is not very diverse, therefore; perceived stereotypes prevent some teachers from treating all students equally (This is district wide not just at the high school). Some students are encouraged to take Honors/AP classes, whereas, others must petition to do so, some are encouraged to engage in athletics, and so forth. Nevertheless, we have encountered some teachers that are absolutely doing what they love...teach. Our children have walked away with valuable lessons due to both positive & not so positive encounters with teachers. We are a school of choice family driving from northern Oakland county; we know our kids are an asset to WBHS in more ways than one.
Been in district for 15 years and have seen this school slide from one of the best to an overspending establishment that has destroyed a good thing. There are so many issues at the school that are swept under the carpet. Racial tensions and drugs are at the top of the list. Focust has switched to the out of district kids vs the in district kids. Teachers complaining about their salaries...upwards towards 90k a year. Most of these kids are just passed through the system because they are just a means to get additional funding from the state. to
My son and I very happy and cant wait to start 9th grade ,great school, clean , great staff and great drama and sport activities
i love it, our drama, band, and sports programs are amazing, and if they are cut I will b greatly disappointed and may even move out of the district.
I am a current student at West Bloomfield High School. It is a great school, truly meant for those who desire to excel. The numerous course offerings include honors and AP classes-23 AP's are offered in subjects like computers, english, mathematics, science, and social studies. The teachers have high expectations but are always willing to help students do well. Staff members are motivating, inspiring students to be great. West Bloomfield High School is proven to be the largest feeder school to the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor, and Michigan State University, Lansing. A few lucky students do make it to the Ivy Leagues from here. West Bloomfield HS is a great school, and I reccomend it to anyone who wants to excel.
I Love the West Bloomfield school district and the High School, very happy for my children to attend the west bloomfield schools.
West Bloomfield HS has great teachers and lots of choices of electives. They offer 7 classes to each students, which means they can take a language, band, choir, computers, advanced sciences, PE, drama, engineering, etc. The administration is receiptive to parents input.
West Bloomfield High School has a great selection of class offerings and many unique classes that are not offered at other schools. My children have enrolled in engineering, robotics, cadcam and medical mentorship to name a few. Wonderful, amazing opportunities for all students.
This is truly an excellent school with many opportunities. The academic program is also highly appreciative. It prepares students for college well and the graduation rate is very high in the school. Additionally, the students who graduate end up going to major universities and ivy-league school. WBHS has probably the most number of extra-curricular activities than any other school in the area. They allow students to excel and be a better person in the world. The administration is very good and they respond to any problems in the school. This school is made for students to excel and go on to be highly successful. The staff connects with the students well and they do not look at a person as just a student but also a friend who is willing to help. This is the best high school
A school district that is working to make our children great citizens and world leaders. They are wonderful and the parent support is excellent, because the district always has programs that parents are requested to participate in with the administration.
My son is a junior at WBHS. It's a great school with loads of academic and extra-curricular offerings. I recommend it whole-heartedly.
I have lived in three states over the past several years, and West Bloomfield High School is without question the finest high school I have ever encountered. The diversity is a blessing for my children, and the teacher quality is unsurpassed. The opportunities my children have had are numerous, and I find the administration outstanding. If you look hard enough, you will find problems with any school, and I am sure this school has its share. As a parent with the means to send their children to any private school in Oakland County, I can honestly say I would not trade West Bloomfield High School for any in the area.
As I student of the West Bloomfield School District for 12 years, I have come to realize what a great educational system it is. I must admit though, in my last years at WBHS, I have seen a decline in leadership and initiative on the part of administration. The unability to maintain a constant/coherant principal in the past few years has impeded the high school's success. Nonetheless, West Bloomfield offers a top notch high school with a student graduation rate as high as any, thanks to its great teachers and staff. Sports and clubs are abudant and fun to watch. To those that say W.B. has gotten more violent, I don't agree. In any high school across America you will find students that get picked on, this school is no different. However, it is still a very safe and secure school. There were never any instances where I felt unsafe.
I have had two children graduate from WBHS and another there now. The school has gone down hill from when my oldest was there. There is a lot of violence and bigotry in the school that is swept under the rug. The superintendent is non responsive. There is a new principal this year who I know very little about even though I've tried to contact him. Your children can get a good education at WBHS, but it takes his or her commitment and some luck to stay out of the way of those students that are causing major trouble in the school. There are good teachers and really bad teachers at WBHS and getting the good teachers is now just the luck of the draw as they won't honor requests or change a schedule for any reason.
I am currently a student of west bloomfield high school and have been in the district for 5 years. I am very dissappointed in this schools lack of ackowledgment to what goes on here. Most of the time anything against sombody for things like 'bullying' and 'teasing' arent handled correctly. Half of my teachers are great and the other half, not so good. If I hadnt known the principal in middle school I wouldnt even know his name. The people in this school are priticularly rude and don't listen unless you make them.
I currently attend this high school as a senior for the upcoming year of 2005-2006. I have thorougly enjoyed the education I recieved in the past three years. This school has wonderful activities, clubs and athletics. There is a multitude of students that make the atmosphere of the school amazing.
