I am a graduate of Lakeland and while attending the school, I wasn't completely thrilled about my experience, but Lakeland is a pretty average school. You have the teachers who genuinely care about their students and try their hardest to teach everyone the material and then you have the teachers protected by tenure who don't care at all. But after watching the documentary Waiting for Superman, I know how much worse my education could have been. As for me, I went on to graduate with a bachelor of science degree from Central Michigan University and am doing pretty great. With average high schools, a student's schooling really comes down to what they make of it.

I graduated from Lakeland in 2010 and I loved my time there. The teachers are awesome and really seem to care about helping the students not only in their academic work but also in becoming good people.

My daughter just graduated from Lakeland this school year. Her 4 years at Lakeland was very memorable. She was involved in band and the Marching Band...the band director is phenomenal. If you would like your student to participate in an extracurricular activity where your student will bond with other students with similar interests and they are not afraid of some discipline and hard work, Lakeland Marching Band is what you are looking for. Besides having a fantastic band director, Bob Green, we also have a great parent group. This was Mr. Behnke's first year as Principal, and I feel he did an outstanding job. With his leadership and the fine teachers at Lakeland, students are bound to succeed.

Good school with teachers who really do know what they're talking about. Teens learn more than enough to get them into and through college.

Lakeland HighSchool has much to offer and I don't even know what we may not have, it seems we have most every extracurricular activity there is. They may not all be award winning national or state winners but also a lot are. The HOT Robotics Huron Valley team is World Champs. The Future Problem Solving Program here is the best in the State. The Lakeland Marching Band has been a State Finalist since at least 1995 and is a very fun program. The football team may be bad but at least we have one. We have countless after school clubs involving youth and governemnt and politics; also great diversity classes and clubs. The school is such a great school it has been chosen to be the home of the International Academy(IA). The (IA) is a nationally acclaimed public high school that has and International Baccalaureate Program! Lakeland is great!

I am a student graduating from Lakeland this year. I think the biggest problem at Lakeland is not the teachers or the academic programs, but it's the fact that kids (along with some parents) are becoming more and more disrespectful. I have to say that teachers, counselers and administrators have tried their best. But honestly, what kid REALLY likes every teacher or every administrator at their school? Lakeland has problems just like every other high school. We've tried to get school spirit back into the school and recognize everyone that's doing a great job. We have a ties program especially for Special Education students. I personally say if you want to come to a high school for football, don't come to Lakeland, but if you want to be able to express your opinion freely and have teachers give you motivation to learn, then LHS is definitely for you.

I am a graduate of LHS. I can say based on what I know now that LHS was a typical high school. The teachers at LHS only taught those students who wanted to be taught. They really did not go out of their way to promote learning. I, being a self-motivated individual, made the most of my educational experience. I have gone on to get my associates degree from Oakland Community College (which I started working on while still in attendance at LHS), my Bachelor's Degree from Eastern Michigan University, and my Master's Degree from Morehead State University (Kentucky). I owe a lot of my motivation to succeed to those teachers at LHS that took the time ensure that I got a quality education. As I stated before though, the student had to initate learning. While I was there, the best part about the football team was the Marching Band!

Sure Lakeland could use some improvement, however as a former student I feel that they maximized their resources and went the extra mile for the students. I recently went on to graduate from CMU and ultimately work as a successful Act.Mgr. for a large I.T. Firm. I credit a lot of the benifits in my life to the things I learned at Lakeland including great social skills and leadership fundamentals that were encouraged in most classes and sports from not only teachers but classmates too. I realize I could have aquired these skills at many schools, however I feel what makes Lakeland special is the community. White Lake stands out as one of the few holsom and genuine places to live in the greater Detroit area and in most cases is where the faculty live. This area is perfect for raising your family, recieving a rewarding education and building your character.

I am a Freshman at Lakeland this year. I have to agree with what the other reviews were, but I still have some slight disagreements. The school year has only just begun (3-5 months) so I havn't gotton everything down about Lakeland but I do have most things down. The teacher quality isn't that great. Some teachers (not all) make there class fun and when your in a fun enviroment you learn easyier or atleast I do. Some other teachers can be really stuck up and if it's not there way then scew you. I have had an expierence already where this had happened to me. Their isnt many extracurricular activites. All the good ones (Student leadership, newspaper, yearbook) are clases only for Juniors/Seniors who are advanced at it. That's really dumb!
